Robert M. Hooper

Robert M. Hooper, 81, 407 E. 29th St., died Jan. 31, 2007, at Northeast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 12, 1925, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Hooper was a son of the late Sherrill I. and Norma Hood Hooper.

Educated in the Rowan County School System, he retired after more than 20 years in the U.S. Army. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was seriously wounded in the Korean War, while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division. After leaving the military, he worked in security.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathryn Johnson Hooper; son Robert B. Hooper, China Grove; daughters Kathy DeYoung, Portage, Mich., Patricia Thompson, China Grove, Betty Jean Hooper, Charlotte, and Debra Tester, Granite Quarry; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A service was held Saturday (Jan. 3, 2007) at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, with full military honors.
