Lona Rainey Smith

SALISBURY – Lona Elizabeth Rainey Smith, 93, of Salisbury, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 28, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Michael William and Annie Belle Gaskey Rainey. She was educated at the Central School in Rowan County.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and was employed for Granite Knitwear. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, William Odell Smith, on April 17, 1990, and a child, William Edward Smith.

Survivors include her children, Donald Wayne Smith and wife Shelia, Patsy Ruth Smith and Bonnie Smith Childers and husband Jimmy, all of Salisbury; half-sisters Geneva Eckerd of Hickory and Edith Perou of Greensboro; grandchildren Kimberly Johnson, Todd Smith, Kevin Smith, Matthew Wayne Smith, Barry Childers and Jennifer Childers; and great-grandchildren Will, Devin and Lauren.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at City Memorial Park with the Rev. Donald M. Phillips, minister of Salem Lutheran Church, officiating.
