North Carolina Central’s men’s basketball team placed five players in double figures and beat Livingstone 75-64 in Durham on Tuesday.

Stephen Butler scored 24 points and had five rebounds for the Blue Bears (3-9). Michael Duncan had 17 points and four assists.

Jason Hervey’s 15 points and 10 rebounds led the Eagles (7-7).

* Livingstone’s women lost 74-52 to the Eagles.

Livingstone (6-8) was led by Lina Brown’s 13 points and nine rebounds. Kimone Johns scored 11 points.

Laquanda Williams led the Eagles (10-5) with 20 points. Cassie King had 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

N.C. Central shot 60 percent from the field in the second half.

* Wonders get win

J.D. Davidson had a career game with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead A.L. Brown’s boys basketball team to a 67-39 win at Piedmont in SPC action Tuesday.

“J.D. had a great game with a lot of offensive rebounds,” A.L. Brown coach Shelwyn Klutz said. “They just didn’t have a matchup for him on the block.”

Josh Gray scored 21 points for the Wonders, and Jonathan Efird added 13.

Piedmont’s girls defeated the Wonders, but no score was available.

* East wrestling goes 3-2

East Rowan’s wrestling team went 3-2 in the South Davidson Duals.

East defeated Lexington 49-27, West Stanly 57-12 and South Davidson 56-19.

East lost to Asheboro and Southwestern Randolph.

Aaron Plyler and C.J. Gordy went undefeated. Thomas Lowe, Chase Burris and Wayne Parker each went 4-1.

East (20-5, 2-1 CPC) plays host to third-ranked Mount Tabor on Thursday at 7 p.m.

* South, East swimmers split

The South Rowan girls won a swim meet over East Rowan at the South YMCA on Tuesday.

Individual winners for South’s girls included Sarah King (200 freestyle and 100 free style), Emily King (200 individual medley), Amy Hinshaw (100 butterfly) and Bethany Bradshaw (100 breaststroke).

The 200 free relay team (Emily Halstenberg, Hinshaw, Stephanie Johnson, and Sarah King) and 400 free relay team (Emily King, Sarah King, Stephanie Johnson and Bethany Bradshaw) also won.

The South boys fell to East.

The individual winner for the South Rowan boys was Cody Buchanan (100 backstroke).

No East results were available.

* Patterson scores 19 points

Avery Patterson (A.L. Brown) scored scored 19 points for St. John’s in a 71-63 loss at DePaul on Tuesday. Patterson came off the bench and went 5-for-9 on 3-pointers.

* Cathcart update

Ohio State sophomore Brandon Cathcart (Salisbury) finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet, 11 inches at the Kentucky Invitational, the season-opening indoor meet for the Buckeyes.

As a freshman, Cathcart led the team during the indoor season with a jump of 50-113?4 at the Big Ten Championships.

During the outdoor season, he led the team with a mark of 50-111?2 at the Sea Ray Relays. He finished sixth in the Big Ten Championships and had the best jump in the conference by a freshman.

* Mills, Bulldogs set to open

Gardner-Webb freshman Allie Mills (North Rowan) is a member of the women’s tennis team, which will begin its season with matches Sunday in Raleigh against N.C. State and UNC Wilmington.

Mills signed to play for coach Mike Griffith, who led both tennis programs at Gardner-Webb but is now concentrating soley on the men’s team. The new women’s coach is Jim Corn, an assistant with both teams who was a four-time All-ACC player at North Carolina.

* Barnes selected

Erwin seventh-grader Robby Barnes has been selected to play in the Olympic Development Program sub-regional event held at Frank Liske Park in Concord on Saturday and Sunday.

He will take part in games against teams from Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and South Carolina.

Barnes is a field player for the ’94 West Rowan boys soccer team and is a club player for the Lake Norman Soccer Club.

* GARS golf

A total of 58 GARS members played at McCanless Golf Club on Monday.

Bobby Clark was the low A player. Nelson Earnhardt was low B player, and Bob Gilland was low C player. Willie Beaver was low D player.

Clark’s total net was 65.22.

* Rowan Tarheels

The Rowan Tarheels 11-under USSSA-AAU baseball team is looking for players.

Players can’t turn 12 before May 1.

* Sacred Heart

James Kyger hit three 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead Sacred Heart’s boys basketball team to a 55-18 victory over Conover Concordia Lutheran.

Roy Dixon scored 11 points. Brian Bauk, Phil Tonseth and Jack Young scored eight points apiece for the Dolphins (19-5).

Spencer Dixon had five steals, and Connor Miller had 10 rebounds.

* Badboys wrestling

The Badboys Wrestling Club out of Landis wrestled in the Charlotte Pitbull Tourney at Grady Cole Center.

Winning silver medals were Cody Simpson, Cody Moon and Leo Pope. Zack McMullin, Lynn Gutierez and Dominique Phifer won bronze.

Pit Bulls wrestler Eli Freeman (China Grove) won a gold medal.

* Hoops registration

The Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department registration for girls Jr. Sting (ages 7-15) basketball has been extended through Friday or until spaces are full.

The cost is $30 for city residents and $60 for non-residents. You can register at Hall Gym. All participants need birth certificates.

* South Y registration

The South Rowan YMCA is accepting registrations for its boys high school basketball program.

This league is for boys in grades 9-12 who are attending school.

Sign-ups are being accepted through Feb. 3. Practice starts in mid-February, with games beginning when the local high school season ends.

* Truslow honored

Pfeiffer’s Raven Truslow, a 5-foot-11 junior guard, has been named CVAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

She leads the league with 55-percent shooting on field goals.
