CHARLOTTE – Mrs. Katherine Bernhardt Chandler, 92, of Charlotte died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Legacy Heights.

Daughter of the late John H. and Mattie Harris Bernhardt she was born in Rowan County June 16, 1914. She was a graduate of Boyden High School in Salisbury and attended Kings Business College.

Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death in 2003 by her husband of 66 Years Ralph Stephen Chandler. They were married October 24, 1936. Katherine was a member of Park Road Baptist Church and was a loving and devoted homemaker.

Surviving are three children, John ‘Steve’ Chandler and wife Pam of Charlotte, Joan Knowles and her husband John of Zephyrhills, FL., and Kay Lenherr and her husband, Michael of Maitland, FL.; eight grandchildren, Janice Lilly and husband, Tom, Jeanette Phelan and husband, Jim, Jennifer Ward and husband, Billy, Joshua Knowles, James and Richard Gardner, Kelly Cowan and husband, Jason, and Bonnie Mays and husband, Tim; six great grandchildren, Adam Lilly, Sean Phelan, Scott, Dallas and Dillon Ward and Brooke Mays.

Services: Graveside service for Mrs. Chandler will be held in Chestnut Hills Cemetery in Salisbury on Wednesday, January 17 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Amy Jacks Dean officiating.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Dilworth Chapel of Hankins and Whittington Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM
