Livingstone’s women put four players in double figures but didn’t come close to beating Fayetteville State 96-72 in CIAA action on Tuesday night.

Livingstone (6-10, 3-6) was led by Kim Westray with 18. She was followed by Asheka Hudson with 13, Clintoria Bryant with 12 and Love Brown with 10.

Livingstone’s men lost to the Broncos 78-68.

Livingstone is home on Thursday against Virginia State and on Saturday against Shaw.

* Powell gets 1,000th

Anson County’s girls beat A.L. Brown 55-41 but there was still reason for the Wonders to cheer Tuesday night. Marla Powell needed 12 points to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career, and she scored 20 for the Wonders (6-13, 2-6).

Brandie Ross chipped in with 16 points.

* A.L. Brown boys win

Josh Gray scored 23 points to lead A.L. Brown’s boys to a 74-53 SPC win over Anson County.

Brown (14-5, 7-1) was up 22-9 after one quarter and cruised.

“Our guys came out with a lot of intensity,” said Wonders coach Shelwyn Klutz, who also got 12 points from Billy Simiton.

* NWC boys lose

Lake Norman’s boys basketball team outscored Northwest Cabarrus 37-18 in the fourth quarter and beat the shorthanded Trojans

90-65 on Tuesday night. Northwest (13-6, 5-4) was missing Roy Allison, Ryen Black and Akeem Dixon, who broke team rules. The Trojans were led by Brian Garcia’s 17 points. Austin Wright scored 16.

Lake Norman (13-6, 7-2) hit

18-of-21 free throws in the final quarter.

Northwest’s girls lost to the Wildcats 68-47.

* Southeast wins

The Southeast Middle eighth-grade boys basketball team beat North Rowan 38-32 on Tuesday.

Southeast (6-7) was led by Xavier Parks with 17 points, Gunnar Hogan with eight and Dylan Eagle with seven.

* North Hills

The North Hills Middle girls (9-4) defeated Woodlawn. Cacy Honeycutt led all scorers with 16 points.

The boys (10-4) also won. Cole Honeycutt led all scorers with 20 points.

No final scores were reported.

* Croner, Guilford fall

Tracey Croner (East Rowan) scored 13 points to lead Guilford, but it wasn’t enough in a 49-46 loss to Washington & Lee on Tuesday night.

* Pro golf

The Nationwide Golf Tour starts on Thursday with the $550,000 Movistar Panama Championship in Panama City.

Salisbury native Tripp Isenhour won the event and $99,000 last year.

This is the first of 32 events scheduled on the Nationwide Tour, and purses will total $18 million.

Salisbury’s Elliot Gealy is expected to play in Panama.

* Carolina Speed

Two former Catawba stars will take the field on Feb. 12 when the Carolina Speed takes the field for its AIFA indoor season-opener against the Tallahassee Titans.

Kickoff is 7:05 p.m.

Defensive back Jamel Jackson and wide receiver Corey Ready are on the team.

The team will play its game at the Cabarrus Arena & Events Center in Concord.

The team includes a nice blend of Division I players, players from both Carolinas and local talent from the Cabarrus County area. Among them are Fred Staton, formerly with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Jeff Aaron, from University of Alabama-Birmingham, is the quarterback. Local standout “Big Jake” Helms stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 340 pounds.

Mike Mink a businessman from Tampa, Florida is the head coach.
