Ruby Rustin Wallace

CHARLOTTE – Ruby Lee Rustin Wallace, age 78, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center.

Born Jan. 20, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Wallace was a daughter of the late Herbert and Susan Davis Rustin. Educated in Rowan County schools, she attended Dunbar High School. She later attended cosmetology school in Brooklyn, N.Y.

She operated a beauty salon in New York for 25 years before relocating to Charlotte where she partnered with her husband in owning Hi-Style Beauty & Barber Shop.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Rev. Sylvester Wallace, son John Sullivan Wallace, twin sister Ruth A. Duncan and brothers Charlie Rustin, Neal Howard Rustin, Herpen Rustin and O.W. Rustin.

She is survived by brothers John L. Rustin Sr., John Wesley Rustin and Herbert Rustin Jr., all of East Spencer; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Public Viewing: Sunday from 2-8 p.m. at Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service.

Visitation: Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Mitchell & Fair Memorial Chapel. The family will also meet at the home of a niece, Minnie “Tootie” Hill-Bolt at 2170 Grubb Ferry Road, Spencer.

Funeral Service: Monday at 2 p.m. at Mitchell & Fair Memorial Chapel with Bishop Henry N. Adkins, pastor of Community Holiness Church of God, officiating.

Interment: Byers Cemetery, East Spencer.
