Elizabeth Hope Shermer

WINSTON-SALEM – Elizabeth Hope Shermer, 86, of Winston-Salem died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

Miss Shermer was born Oct. 29, 1920 in Winston-Salem to the late William Dallas Shermer and Edna Hauser Shermer. She was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School and Meredith College in Raleigh. She taught 5th grade at several Winston-Salem schools until she retired in 1979. Miss Shermer was a member of First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, William D. Shermer, Jr.

She is survived by a brother, Gordon Hauser Shermer and wife Lind Giles Shermer of Salisbury; two nephews William Thad Shermer and wife Karen Holland Shermer of Wentworth and Gordon Bradley Shermer and wife Jennifer Helms Shermer of Salisbury; five great-nephews and a long-time friend, John Ogburn of Winston-Salem.

Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Funeral Home Chapel, 120 S. Main Street with Rev. Arnett Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
