Letter: Teachers deserve praise and support

I am a music specialist for the Rowan-Salisbury School System, and I would just like to say that I am proud of each and every person in this system who continues to work hard in order to teach our children everything they are to know. This system would be nothing without the fine, intelligent, talented and dedicated people who make it up.

Every day a teacher rises to face children who at times refuse to work, refuse to be obedient and refuse to participate in learning activities. These teachers should be commended. Contrary to popular opinion, teaching is not an effortless job.

There are times when it seems as though we don’t get the support we need from the citizens and parents of this county. Teachers cannot do it all! It takes an entire community to raise a child, to teach him values, and to help him achieve his life goals. We need your help.

We need the assistance of the parents to help their children retain the knowledge they’ve gained. The quality of your child’s performance depends partly on what he does at home. As a parent, your discipline, your love and your assistance are needed to create better citizens, test-takers and well-behaved children.

In conclusion, teachers, I commend you. You work hard even when no one is supporting you and people are dragging you down. Even when you feel like giving up or changing careers, you are still dedicated. Even when some of your kids don’t appreciate what you’re doing for them.

Keep up the fabulous work and know that this music teacher supports and thanks you!
