A man sentenced to die for the 1992 slaying of a 20-year-old Rowan County woman faces a Feb. 9 execution, the N.C. Department of Correction announced.
James Adolph Campbell, 45, was convicted in Rowan County Superior Court for the 1992 murder of Katherine Price of Kannapolis. Authorities said Campbell abducted, raped and stabbed Price to death after she stopped her car along Airport Road and offered him a ride Sept. 9, 1992.
Campbell has exhausted all appeals. The N.C. Supreme Court upheld his conviction in 1995. The U.S. Supreme Court denied a petition in December to review his case.
A jury deliberated two hours before convicting Campbell after a 1993 trial. The jury took three more hours to impose the death penalty.
