LINWOOD – Charlie Alexander Griffin Jr., 85, of Jubilee Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury following a sudden illness.

Born July 19, 1921, in Davidson County, Mr. Griffin was a son of the late Charles and Luna Clodfelter Griffin. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired from N.C. Finishing Co.

Mr. Griffin had served as a Pastor Steward for more than 50 years at Union Chapel AME Zion Church.

He was preceded in death by son Gregory Griffin; brothers Willie and James Griffin; and sister Josephine Mobley.

Surviving are sons Kenneth (Glenda) Walker of Tucson, Ariz., Charles Albert (Sharon) Griffin of Mount Holly, Christopher Don (Claudia) Griffin of Huntersville, Harry Bush of East Spencer and Clarence “Pete” (Frances) Jones of Salisbury; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Curtis (Betty) Griffin of Lexington and Paul (Hazel) Griffin of Linwood; and sisters Bertie Hatley of Newark, N.J., and Ida Griffin Smith of Lexington.

Service: 1:30 p.m. today at Union Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. Morgan Glenn officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Visitation: 1-1:30 p.m. today at the church. The remains may be viewed today from 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home, Lexington.
