A recent “American Profile” had an article titled “Wash Your Hands.”

Recently, I bought a banana blizzard in an establishment and was shocked to see the girl take my money, make change, then proceed to peel and hold the banana as she cut it — without washing her hands.

I told another girl I did not want it and explained why. She told her and began all over.

This week, after I ordered a cheeseburger, the owner took the money, made change and handled the bun etc. as he made the sandwich, without washing.

It was gross. (I was with several others, so I did not cause a scene but could hardly eat.) I definitely did not enjoy it!

The use of instant handwash could be helpful in some of these instances, but wearing plastic gloves would be, too.

Another thing I detest is shaking hands — often while standing in line to eat. I don’t want to be rude, but I do not like the practice.

I see so many people handle cups and glasses by picking them up by the rims. People are not trained or aware; there’s no consideration for the customer. Straws are not always available.

I don’t want to become like Howard Hughes, but we do need to be more concerned.
