Contours Express, a new fitness center for women, will open Tuesday at 331 Faith Road in the Innes Street Market.

Owned and operated by Kathy Primavera of Salisbury, the center will offer customized strength-training circuit workouts.

“Whether they are looking to tone, lose inches or simply live stronger daily lives, Contours Express’ 29-minute workouts will help the women of Salisbury better themselves inside and out,” Primavera said, while fitting into their busy lifestyles.

The fitness center will personalize a fitness program not just for exercise, but for health and wellness, she said. It will offer circuit training, cardio fitness and a butt-n-gut program.

“It will help women with arthritis, osteoporosis, obesity, heart disease, diabetes and fibromyalgia. Our goal is to monitor women’s progress from week to week so that together we can see the progress our program is doing for each individual,” she said.

Primavera has fibromyalgia herself and has improved her strength through exercise. She was motivated to help others “when I realized how much I can do now that I’m on an exercise program to build strength and keep my muscles from being stiff and achy.”

The center has strength-training machines to help build bone density and prevent osteoporosis. Primavera said the focus for most women has shifted from wanting to lose weight to more concern for overall health. The center’s machines are specifically designed for women.

Monica Bruns of Salisbury, who was trained at Contours’ headquarters in Kentucky, is the center’s assistant manager.

Stanly surgeon

Dr. James B. DeTorre, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience, is joining the staff of Stanly Regional Medical Center.

DeTorre will also see patients at Albemarle Orthopedics & Sports Medicine on the first floor of the Yadkin Medical Office Building, 105 Yadkin St.

Previously in an orthopedics and sports medicine practice in Hilton Head, S.C., DeTorre earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He later completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Detorre grew up in Albemarle and is a graduate of Albemarle High School. He is also certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

He will work with Dr. Joseph Zucker, also a board-certified orthopedic surgeon.

RCCC focus of meet The Cabarrus County Leadership Association, a local chapter of the National Management Association, will meet Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College’s Cabarrus Business and Technology Center, 660 Parkway Ave., Concord.

After dinner, the presentation will be on the available resources of RCCC’s Continuing Education program.
