RICHMOND, Va. — Donte Minter scored 15 of his 25 points in the final 4:37 Saturday night as Appalachian State rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit to beat Virginia Commonwealth 73-70.

The loss ended the Rams’ seven-game winning streak.

The Mountaineers (11-3) trailed 54-37 with 14:24 to play after the Rams went on a 22-8 burst to begin the second half. But Appalachian State, which shot 59 percent after halftime, finally moved in front on Minter’s 3-point play with 2:18 remaining.

The Rams (9-3) used a 13-4 run late in the first half to lead 32-29 at the break. Eric Maynor keyed the burst, scoring 16 consecutive points for the Rams in the last three minutes of the first half and the first 2:24 of the second half. Maynor scored 27.

Minter, who transferred from Virginia, did most of his damage in close, hitting 9 of 13 from the field and all seven of his free throws. Jeremy Clayton added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Kellen Brand scored 10 for the Mountaineers.
