PHOENIX — Mike Tyson was released from jail without bond on a felony drug possession charge Friday after an early-morning arrest in which Buckeye police said they found two bags of white powder in his back pocket.

“He admitted to using today and stated he is an addict and has a problem,” according to a police probable cause statement. “Mike admitted to possessing bags of cocaine and said he uses any time he can get his hands on it.”

RALEIGH — Ray Whitney had a goal and two assists, and Rod Brind’Amour added a goal and an assist in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.

Justin Williams also had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who bounced back from a loss at Buffalo on Thursday night to win for the sixth time in seven games.

Cam Ward made 25 saves, and Erik Cole scored an empty-netter in the final minute to seal it in a matchup of the defending Stanley Cup champions and the NHL’s top team.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — San Francisco 49ers receiver Antonio Bryant pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless driving and resisting arrest after he was spotted driving more than 100 mph last month.

OKLAHOMA CITY — An ankle injury will keep New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul sidelined for at least a month.

Paul had an MRI on Thursday and has a severely sprained ankle that will take a minimum of four weeks to heal. He is the Hornets leading scorer, averaging 18.4 points. He also leads the team in assists with 9.0 per game.

NEW YORK — Former New York Yankees player Bobby Murcer watched the Independence Bowl from his Houston hospital bed after surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Murcer, now a Yankees broadcaster, had been having headaches and feeling a loss of energy. The tumor was discovered following an MRI on Christmas Eve.

* MIAMI — The Florida Marlins and infielder Aaron Boone agreed to a $925,000, one-year contract on Friday.

Boone, who turns 34 next March, hit .251 with seven home runs and 45 RBIs in 104 games at third base last season for Cleveland.
