Too young for gun?

In the Dec. 12 edition of the Post on the last page of the sports section is a picture of a 6-year-old child, sitting with a dead deer and a gun! What is your paper thinking?

This article states that the child received the gun he was using at the age of 5 as a Christmas present! Am I the only person upset by this?

I understand the need for animal control; I also understand that some people hunt for food. I don’t understand how anyone thinks it’s OK to teach a young impressionable child that it’s fun to kill a living creature. Having a kindergarten-age child shooting a gun is absurd and dangerous. I’m sure that there are states where this would be considered child abuse or at the very least child endangerment.

Children need to be taught kindness and compassion for all living creatures. There was nothing “cute” about this article.
