Staff report

East Rowan announced the hiring of its next football coach Wednesday, promoting offensive coordinator Brian Hinson to head coach.

Hinson, who played at Catawba from 1996-99, has been at East the past two seasons as both offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. He was an All-SAC offensive lineman at Catawba for three seasons and made both all-region and all-american his final two seasons.

Hinson later served as a graduate assistant for head coach David Bennett of Coastal Carolina. Bennett coached at Catawba while Hinson was playing.

With the hiring of Hinson, East Rowan will have its fifth head coach in six seasons in 2006-07. The Mustangs decided not to renew the contract of Jim Crawley.
