Willa May Griggs Orr

SALISBURY – ?Willa May Griggs Orr, 95, of Salisbury, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation of Salisbury.

Mrs. Orr was born July 18, 1911, in Wadesboro to the late Olivia Pearl Saylor Griggs and Luther Eugene Griggs. She worked as secretary of The Catawba County Red Cross Board and Assistant Manager of Custom Craft Furniture Company.

Mrs. Orr also worked through the Lion’s Club for the Federation of the Blind Project testing school children. She was in charge of Fund Drives for many things such as building the Hickory Recreation Center, the new Methodist Church and the Red Cross Annual Drives.

Mrs. Orr was active in various civic endeavors, the Polio Vaccine Program and the Vietnam War effort. She was part owner of the Hickory Costume Company and was active in the Hickory Little Theatre both in the operations and in performances. She was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church in Salisbury.

Mrs. Orr was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Moody Orr, on March 5, 1977. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Service: A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at City Memorial Park. The service will be conducted by Rev. David Hockett, minister at Milford Hills United Methodist Church.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home.
