Thomas Wayne Boyd

SALISBURY – Thomas Wayne Boyd, 78, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Born March 25, 1928, in Decatur, Ill., Mr. Boyd was a son of the late Rosa Owens Boyd and Thomas Lee Boyd. Educated in Decatur city schools, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Boyd worked 16 years for Walbash Railroad, 12 years for Boyden Chemical and after retirement worked part-time as a custodian at Granite Quarry Elementary.

He was an active member of Westside Church of the Nazarene in Kannapolis and was an avid fisherman and gardener.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Butler Boyd, whom he married June 6, 1980; sons Steven Boyd and wife Laura of Oreana, Ill., and Charles Michael (Mike) Boyd and wife Cindy of South Dakota; stepson Samuel Allen and wife Kathy of Salisbury; stepdaughter Pamela Cordts and husband Larry of Salisbury; sister Charlotte Smith of Decatur; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Service: 11 a.m. Friday at Lyerly Funeral Home’s James C. Lyerly Chapel with the Rev. Charles Savage officiating. Burial will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Salisbury with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Rowan County Honor Guard.

Visitation: 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
