For many years, I have visited Dunn’s Mountain to admire the vista, clamber over its rock formations, admire its flora and fauna and see the clues to its history etched and drilled into its face. I introduced my children to rock climbing and rappeling down its modest rock faces.

I was saddened to see Dunn’s Mountain imprisoned behind a chain link fence. I first thought some rich guy had bought it up and erected a mega-mansion on the other side.

I was excited to learn the parks department had bought it and the public would again enjoy it! I looked forward with anticipation to the day my children and I could again enjoy Dunn’s Mountain.

Today, I visited Dunn’s Mountain after it opened. I was very disappointed. Dunn’s Mountain is still imprisoned behind a fence. The public is still fenced out. We simply are allowed a closer look. I might spend a buck or even more to really experience Dunn’s Mountain the way we used to. But to walk a fenced-in path to the top? I don’t think so. I will not visit again.
