‘Coffee Therapy’

“Coffee Therapy,” a film written and directed by Sam Post and made in Salisbury, will be screened at The Somewhere Else Tavern in Greensboro 8 p.m. tonight.

The screening is part of T.U.F.F. (Tavern Underground Film Fanatics), a two-day festival in its first year.

The “Coffee Therapy” cast includes mostly Salisbury actors, including Beth Porter, Mary Ann McCubbin, Erin Fanelly, Jonathan Coarsey, Tammie Casper, Darryl Casper, Tim Campbell, Alice Rich and Kurt Corriher.

Hank West of Charlotte plays the lead role. Other Charlotte actors include Dana Boggess and Douglas Welton.

Maddie Gentry, a student at Overton, also has a role in the movie.

The Somewhere Else Tavern is located at 5713 W. Friendly Ave. Admission is free.

“Purple,” Post’s new short play, will be included in Theatre Charlotte’s 9×9@9 showcase Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The show includes nine plays and begins at 8 p.m. Douglas Welton and Annette Saunders will perform. Welton directs.

Festival of Trees

The Arc Festival of Trees takes place 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday in the F & amp;M Trolley Barn, 125 E. Liberty St.

Among those scheduled to perform are singer Clint Abernethy, The PCS Jazz Trio, accordion player Lorna Brown and performers from Piedmont Players’ reprising their Saunders Family roles.

Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 3-12, and free for 2 and under.

Southern Spirit

DENTON — On Saturday, Southern Spirit Gallery, located at 56 W. Salisbury St., Denton, is holding a Christmas Open House: “Christmas With Our Artists.” Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and admission is free.

Featured artists include Miriam Beaucham, oils; Bill Clubb, photography; Randy Dean, oil/acrylic; Janet Isenhour, watercolor; Diane McCool, fractal imaging, Katherine Skipper, watercolor/oil; and Carl Tuttle, oil/colored pencil.

In addition to the artists, local author Terri Lanning Cook will be on site to sign her new book, “From Teaching to Toilets.”

Paolino CD

Local blues artist Bob Paolino has released a CD entitled “Blazin’ Blues Bob: Live at the Double Door.” Copies of the CD will be available for $10 each at The Blue Vine, 209 S. Main St., during Paolino’s appearance there Saturday night, 8:30-11:30 p.m.

Paolino was winner of the 2003 Lower Cape Fear Blues Challenge, semi-finalist in the 2004 International Blues Challenge. He was featured artist at the 2005 Wilmington Blues Festival.

At the Rowan Jazz and Blues festival he has opened for Big Bill Morganfield and Cephas & amp; Wiggins.

Paolino is past president of the Charlotte Blues Society and chairman of the “Blues in the Schools” Program.

Prime Time Christmas

CONCORD — The Piedmont Prime Time Community Band’s annual Christmas concert will be held 7 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium of Jay M. Robinson High School, 300 Pitts School Rd., Concord. The concert will mark the fifth anniversary of the band’s first performance in December 2002.

Music will also be presented by the recorder ensemble, Windsong. Children from the audience will be invited to join the band on stage to play sleigh bells for the songs “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls” and “Up on the Roof Top.”

The band’s conductor is Jon Hutchinson and Mary Ellen Williams is band president. Admission is free. The band is supported in part by a grant from the N.C. Grassroots Arts Fund and the Cabarrus Arts Council.

Singing Seniors

The Salisbury Singing Seniors of the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center will present their Christmas cantata for the public on at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, in the Rufty-Holmes Center, 1120 S. Boundary St.

The choir is made up of 40 seniors under the direction of Beth Young, and accompanied by pianist Daisy Bost. They will be performing “Do You Hear What I Hear” by Brymer and Callaway.

Refreshments will be provided following the performance.

After-School Strings

The After-School Strings Program, a joint project of the Rowan-Salisbury School System and the Salisbury-Rowan Symphony Society will be presenting holiday concerts during the coming weeks. The schedule is as follows: Millbridge Elementary, Dec. 6; Granite Quarry Elementary, Dec. 7; and Isenberg Elementary, Dec. 14. All three concerts begin at 4 p.m. and will last about one hour. They are all free, and the public is invited to attend and stay for refreshments.

Professional musician Carrie Ezzel teaches the classes at Granite Quarry, assisted by Susan Trivette, the music specialist at Granite Quarry. At Millbridge, professional violinist Julia Westendorf teaches the classes, assisted by another local professional, Melissa Adams. Isenberg students are instructed by another professional violinist, Fabrice Dharamraj, assisted by April Hafner, a music business major at Catawba College.
