Livingstone’s men’s basketball team beat Morris 62-54 on Saturday for its first victory this season at New Trent Gym.

Brent Cowles led the Blue Bears (2-5) with 14 points. Landon Bussie had 12 rebounds.

Joseph Hayward led the Hornets with 13 points.

Livingstone led only 34-32 at halftime.

The Blue Bears had 21 points off 23 Morris College turnovers.

Livingstone travels to Virginia Union on Saturday for its final game of 2006.

n Catawba women win again

Catawba’s women’s basketball team beat St.Paul’s 82-60 at Goodman Gym on Saturday for its sixth straight victory.

Catawba (6-1) led St. Paul’s (1-4) 35-21 at halftime.

Thirteen players took part in the scoring for coach Angie Morton’s Indians. NeKeithia Howard led the attack with 12 points. Corin Muldrow had 10. Hillary Hampton, Cameron Clark and Brooks Whitley followed with nine points apiece.

Catawba travels to Pfeiffer on Tuesday night. The Indians will play Coker at home on Saturday.

n Sacred Heart basketball

Sacred Heart’s boys basketball team helped christen a new facility with a 48-33 win over St. Andrews at Myrtle Beach on Saturday.

James Kyger scored 14 points to pace the Dolphins (7-4). Jack Young had 11 points and six assists. Roy Dixon had 10 points. Connor Miller had 11 rebounds and five blocks. Phil Tonseth had 10 rebounds.

On Sunday, Dixon (17 points), Kyger (14 points), Young (10 points), Miller (11 rebounds) and Kevin Robinson (10 rebounds) paced a 45-38 overtime win over St. Andrews.

The Dolphins take on Salisbury Academy on Thursday.

n North Hills hoops

The North Hills varsity girls basketball team lost to Kerwin 32-31. Johanna Tansey scored nine points for the Eagles. Catherine Ardoin and Skarlett Ross had six points each, and Christina Gobble with five.

The North Hills varsity boys lost to Kerwin 68-40. Robert Powell scored 11 points. Josh Richardson and Travis Williams had eight points each. Ethan Marsh had seven.

n Catawba swimming

Catawba’s women stand fourth, while the men are fifth after the opening night of action at the Savannah Art & amp; Design Invite swim meet on Friday night. The meet will continue through Sunday.

Catawba’s Grant Gibson won the 1650 freestyle in a school record 16:54.29. He also broke the record for the 500 and 1000 free events.

The men’s 800 free relay finished eighth, with a school-record time of 7:55.83. Gibson was joined by Michael Biehl, Eric Thornton and Kevin Flebbe.

Christine Ofslager took an eighth-place finish in the 1650 free with a season-best time of 19:13.65. Mollie Landers swam a lifetime best of 20:40.37 and placed 11th.

The women’s 800 free relay team — Kira Capano, Margeaux Doiron, Ofslager and Leigh Spada — was fourth in a season-best time of 8:15.90.

n North boosters

North Rowan High School’s booster club will meet Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in the media center.

n South jayvee football

South Rowan’s jayvee football team finished with some impressive numbers.

Deandre Harris rushed 190 times for 1,299 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Blake Houston was 47-for-108 passing for 781 yards and nine touchdowns.

B.J. Grant had 21 catches for 341 yards and seven TDs.
