Kelsea Kluttz homered, tripled and doubled in her first three at-bats and Chelsea White took charge on the mound to lead East Rowan to a 14-0 romp over Asheboro in a first-round game of the 3A state softball playoffs in Granite Quarry on Tuesday.

Haley Barrier singled home Ericka Nesbitt for a quick 1-0 lead. Kayla Potts' double made it 2-0. Kluttz's homer capped a six-run first inning.

Prep Baseball Roundup: Lake Norman up next for East

From staff reportsRoss Whitley didn't allow a hit in three innings of relief, and Lake Norman defeated Southwest Guilford 5-3 on Tuesday to advance to a third-round matchup with East Rowan in the 3A playoffs.

Lake Norman (13-13) scored twice in the fifth to forge a 3-all tie, then scored two more in the sixth.

Jordan Farrel went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple and scored two runs to lead the Wildcats. Kevin Gradert was 2-for-3 with a double.
