Son accused of arson in one Enochville fire

BY JENNIFER MOXLEY
SALISBURY POST

ENOCHVILLE — A teen-ager has been accused of setting one of four suspicious fires that struck within a short time in the Enochville area last week.

Late last week, Rowan County Sheriff’s Detective Gleen Hinson charged Kenneth Wayne Archie, 18, with setting fire to an outbuilding that belonged to his father, Larry Wayne Archie.

Kenneth’s address is the same as his father’s, 125 McWood Road, where the fire occurred.

Someone reported the fire around 9:30 a.m. Sept. 22, the fourth fire that day near Cannon Farm Road.

Kenneth Archie faces only one count of felony burning. Sheriff’s Lt. John Sifford would only say the other three fires are still under investigation, and deputies are questioning a suspect.

The first fire in the area was reported about 3 a.m. Wednesday at 725 Cannon Farm Road.

There, firefighters found a car, carport and shed burning.

At the same time, a large abandoned wood frame house in the 5500 block of Cannon Farm Road was reported ablaze.

Ten minutes later, in the 2100 block of Cannon Farm Road, a third fire involving a pick-up was reported.

Six hours later, Larry Archie’s shed was burning.

Kenneth Archie has no prior criminal record and is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center under $5,000 bond.

County Fire Marshall Randall Faggart could not be reached this morning for comment, but he did say Monday that the Enochville fires were still being investigated.
