The old Mt. Ulla High School no longer exists, but the students and the memories do.
Members of the class of 49 are expecting about 40 people for their 50th anniversary
reunion tonight at Landmark Church, and theyll be looking at pictures like this and
remembering Mt. Ulla School, when it served students in grades one through 12. Graduation was a big event for the 32 members of the class.
It included a Class Night program, which was when this picture was made, a baccalaureate
program and graduation itself and a play. Margaret Hillard, who owns this picture
and is arranging this years reunion, says it was also a group that liked theater,
more, perhaps, because it was a time when few students had cars and they had to create
their own entertainment at home.
The senior class play was entitled A
Southern Rosary, and they also presented The Man in the Green Shirt.
Hillard doesnt remember much about the Class Night event but her dress. It was white
dotted swiss, and her sister, Ruby Morris Cashion, bought it for her. I added extra
lace to make it a little more fancy.
