WOODLEAF - Uyless MelvinSmith, 75, 320 Renshaw
Road, died Thursday (Sept. 2, 1999) at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville.
Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Rowan County, Mr. Smith was
a son of the late Sabrin Rodden and Garfield Smith. A retired mechanic, he was a member of
Corinth Church of Christ.
Survivors include wife Kathryn Reavis Smith; son
Charlie Smith, Woodleaf; daughter Carol Smith Allen, Durham; sisters Pauline Stroud and
Elmer Wall, both of Mocksville; and four grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. today, Corinth Church of Christ,
conducted by Mr. Raymond McDaniel Jr. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. today, Corinth Church of
Christ.
Mike Carlisle
KANNAPOLIS - Robert Michael Mike
Carlisle, 51, 1104 Pine St., died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at the home of son Allen
Carlisle.
Born April 26, 1948, in Rowan County, Mr. Carlisle
was a son of the late Mattie Lee Houston and Empy Yates E.Y. Carlisle. He was
a machinist with Gessner Industries, formerly Windsor & Jerauald, Concord.
He was a member of Unity Baptist Church and a
first responder with the Kannapolis Fire Department.
Survivors include wife Vickie Sartain Carlisle;
another son, Robert Yates Carlisle, Kannapolis; and four grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Unity Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Keith Cudd and the Rev. Larry Beaver. Burial, West Lawn Memorial
Park, China Grove.
Visitation: 7-9 p.m. tonight, Ladys Funeral
Home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Allen Carlisle, 705 Robert
Drive.

Zeta Lackey Beam
KANNAPOLIS - Zeta Lackey Patterson Beam, 83, 3040
N. Cannon Blvd., died Friday (Sept. 3, 1999) at her home after a period of declining
health.
Born April 5, 1916, in Alexander County, Mrs. Beam
was a daughter of the late Blandie Sloan and Milas Lackey. She was employed in the
business office of Kannapolis Publishing Co., formerly the Daily Independent newspaper,
for 38 years before she retired in 1981.
Mrs. Beam was a member of Jackson Park United
Methodist Church, where she was active in the Gladys Nelson Sunday School Class and the
Jet Set senior citizens club. Formerly active with the YMCA Senior Citizens Club, she was
a member of the Cabarrus County Silverliners and the Murdock Center Golden Slippers.
Her first husband, Harry C. Patterson, died in
1979.
Survivors include husband C. Ray Beam; daughter
Shari Cranford, Columbia, S.C.; brother Sloan Lackey, Stony Point; sister Wilma Sloan,
Statesville; and two grandchildren.
Services:4 p.m. Sunday, Jackson Park United
Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Skipper Watwood. Private graveside service,
Carolina Memorial Park.

ADVANCE - Ella Booe March, 86, died Thursday
(Sept. 2, 1999) at Meadowbrook Terrace following a period of declining health.
Born in Davie County, Mrs. March was a daughter of
the late Sallie Booe.
Her husband, Jess Lee March, died in 1977.
Survivors include sons Robert (Martha) March,
Winston-Salem, and Eugene March, Mocksville; three grandchildren; and four great
grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Redland Church of Christ,
conducted by Minister Cloys Cecil officiating. Burial, church cemetery.
