Scarecrows for Charity Contest Winners at Carolina Lily

Julie Apone, owner of Carolina Lily, a retail shop and luncheon spot in Salisbury, is pleased to announce the following winners of the 2011 Scarecrows for Charity Contest recently held on the grounds.
First Place, On-Site Voting, $500 winner: The Crow, by Lori and Cole Goodnight, Simon Post and local 6th grade AIG students, benefitting Food For Thought. The mission of Food for Thought is to improve our community by creating a coalition of organizations to feed food-insecure children in the Rowan/Salisbury school systems. Operating under St. Luke's Episcopal Church, FFT is currently active in Shive, Granite Quarry, Knollwood, Woodleaf, Hanford Dole, Overton, Koontz and has just added Shive Elementary School. First Place, Facebook Contest $100 winner: The Drum Major, benefitting the Mini Funk Factory at Overton Elementary school by Anthony Johnson. Mr. Johnson, a technology and music teacher at Overton, started the Mini Funk Factory just a year ago with 8 children, and it has grown into a full marching band, the only one in an elementary school in North and South Carolina, recently performing at The Battle of the Bands in Winston-Salem. Johnson believes in the power of music, and acting as a male role model for at risk children to keep them engaged in school. Contact: 704 639-3000
