Mary Grace Orth Jones
A private memorial service will be held at a later
date for Mary Grace Orth Jones, 85, 710 Julian Road, who died Wednesday (Oct. 27, 1999) at
Rowan Regional Medical Center after 3 1/2 years of declining health.
Born Oct. 19, 1914, in Muscoda, Wisc., Mrs. Jones
was a daughter of the late Fred and Louise Trensch Orth. She was educated in the Muscoda
schools.
A kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual
Help Catholic School, Riverside, Calif., for a number of years, she later retired as a
telephone operator at Riverside General Hospital, also in Riverside. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include son David Jones, Salisbury; and
two grandchildren.

Neale Richard McCombs
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Saturday for
Neale Richard McCombs, 76, 601 Airport Road, who died Wednesday (Oct. 27, 1999) at
NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born July 10, 1923, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
McCombs was a son of the late Floyd Brown and Gracie Richards McCombs. A veteran of the
U.S. Navy, he served during World War II in the Seabees.
In the 1960s he owned and operated G&W Food
Market and Big Dollar Store, both in Kannapolis. He later worked as a self-employed
building contractor for 15 years before retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran
Church, where he had served on the council and the finance committee.
His first wife, Rebecca Baldwin McCombs, died May
23, 1987.
Survivors include wife Margaret Poole McCombs;
sons Rick and Bill McCombs, both of Charlotte; stepsons Steven Lee Poole, Charlotte, and
Jeffrey Dean Poole, Kannapolis; one grandson; and two step-grandsons.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Kimball Memorial
Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kearney and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie. Burial,
Carolina Memorial Park.

George C. Phipps
LANDIS George C. Phipps, 75, formerly of
Landis, died Thursday (Oct. 28, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation,
Salisbury.

Vestal George V.G. Prim
COOLEEMEE The funeral will be Saturday for
Vestal George V.G. Prim, 81, Ruffin Street, who died Wednesday (Oct. 27, 1999)
at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born June 21, 1918, in Yadkin County, Mr. Prim was
a son of the late George W. and Roxie Vestal Prim. A graduate of Yadkin County High School
and Guilford College, he received a masters degree and an education degree from
Appalachian State University.
He taught school in Stokes County and was a
principal in Vance and Davie counties prior to his retirement. A former member of the
Davie County Board of Education, he served as chairman for six years.
He was named to the North Carolina Advisory
Committee on Education Block Grants and was District 5 Principal of the Year. Active in
the Republican Party, he was a member of Cooleemee United Methodist Church.
Survivors include wife Pauline Daniel Prim; and
son V.G. FrostyPrim Jr., Mocksville.

Ollie Bell Tenor Scott
Ollie Bell Tenor Scott, 85, formerly of 938 E.
Lafayette St., died Friday (Oct. 29, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after several
months of declining health.
Born May 4, 1914, in Rolston, Ga., Mrs. Scott was
a daughter of the late Thomas and Hattie Norman Tenor. She was educated in the Rolston
(Ga.) and Iredell County schools. Retired after 30 years with Rowan Regional Medical
Centers housekeeping department, she also did domestic work in private homes.
She was a member of Boxwood Baptist Church, where
she was involved with the Missionary Board, the Pastors Aid and the Senior Choir. A
former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Court of Calanthe, she was a member
of the East Side Senior Citizens.
Her husband, John A. Scott, died in 1980. A
daughter, Hattie Scott, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include son John C. Scott, Salisbury;
daughter Jeannetta S. Muskelly, Salisbury, with whom she made her home; brother Charlie
Tenor, Cooleemee; sisters Naomi Reid, Cooleemee, and Carrie Ruth Graham, Salisbury; nine
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
