Ailene Hall Huneycutt, 67, 2831 Hwy. 52 N., died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at
Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born April 12, 1932, in Stanly County, Mrs.
Huneycutt was a daughter of the late Oscar and Ina Napier Hall. She was production control
secretary for Collins &Aikman Corp. and a member of BethanyUnited Methodist Church.
Her husband, Richard EdwardHuneycutt, preceded her
in death.
Survivors include sons Eddie and Tommy Huneycutt,
both of Albemarle; daughters Cathy H. Smith, New London, and Tammy H. Carter, Eden; eight
grandchildren; and five great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Bethany United
Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jeffery A. Sweeney and the Rev. Mick OBrien.
The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Sidney Thomas Efird
Sidney Thomas Efird, 69, of Salisbury, died Friday
(Oct. 15, 1999) at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.
Born Mar. 16, 1930, in Stanly County, Mr. Efird
was a son of the late Pansy Pyler and Carl Benson Efird. Educated in the Stanly County
Schools and Pfeiffer College, Mr. Efird was a retired salesman. He was a veteran of the
U.S. Army and a member of First United Methodist Church in Salisbury.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Sink Efird; two
sons, Harry Carl Efird, Mocksville, and Thomas Benson Efird, Charlotte; and one
granddaughter.

Ray Ferguson
MOORESVILLE Ray Ferguson, 71, 121 Washam
Road, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born Sept. 22, 1928, in Liberty, Mr. Ferguson was
a son of the late Lester and Annie Routh Ferguson. He worked at Estes Trucking Co. for
eight years and as a mechanic at Central Motor Line.
Survivors include his wife, Doris P. Ferguson; a
son, Tim Ferguson, Mooresville; five brothers, Alfred, Tom, Garland, Richard and Joe
Ferguson, all of Liberty; four sisters, Dahpne Snider, Mary Parks, Evelyn Williams and Ann
Ferguson, all of Liberty; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Peninsula Baptist Church,
conducted by Dr. Robert Jackson. Burial, Iredell Memorial Gardens, Statesville.

Arvillee Patterson Gaither
Arvillee Patterson Gaither, 74, 1508 N. Shaver
St., died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after falling
seriously ill a week ago.
Born Jan. 22, 1925, in East Spencer, Mrs. Gaither
was a daughter of the late Lovett Iva Patterson and Elizabeth Drakeford Patterson Hipps.
Agraduate of Dumbar High School, she attended Livingstone College where she played
basketball. A retired employee of Rowan Regional Medical Center she was a member of
Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church, in East Spencer,where she was a Life Missionary
and served on the Kitchen Committee. Mrs. Gaither was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of
J.C. Price American Legion Post No. 107 and a Cub Scout den mother.
Survivors include her husband, Leon F. Gaither
Jr.; three sons, Lovett Gaither Sr., Hampton, Va., Alton Gaither Sr., Oklahoma City,
Okla., and Leon F. Gaither III, Salisbury; a sister, Elmira P. Henderson, Salisbury; six
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services:3 p.m. Monday, Southern City AME Zion,
conducted by Dr. Donald Holness, pastor. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park. Noble and Kelsey
Funeral Home is in charge.

Dorothy Eagle Major
The funeral will be Tuesday for Dorothy Eagle
Whisnant Major, 88, formerly of Hollywood Drive, who died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at
Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home after 11 years of declining health.
Born Dec. 14, 1910, in Salisbury, Mrs. Major was a
daughter of the late George Scott and Essie Summey Eagle. A graduate of Spencer High
School, she worked as a secretary for the Spencer schools and at Fiber Industries before
retiring. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star,
Spencer Chapter 31.
Her first husband, Isaac Perry Whisnant, died on
Dec. 25, 1967, and her second husband, Samuel E. Major, died on Oct. 18, 1972. A daughter,
Doris Marie Whisnant, died in 1938.
Survivors include three sons, G. Perry and Frank
E. Whisnant, both of Salisbury, and Paul L. Whisnant, Burgaw; a brother, Henry Eagle,
Thomasville; a sister, Miss Marie Barrier, Salisbury; six grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Calvary Baptist Church,
conducted by Dr. Rick Cockerham, pastor. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30.
Burial,Rowan Memorial Park.

Annie Lopp Raper
LEXINGTON Annie Belle Lopp Raper, 93, 456
N. Leonard Road, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) at her home.
Born Oct. 13, 1906, in Davidson County, Mrs. Raper
was a daughter of the late Thoyrus Peter and Jessie Louise Michael Lopp. She was a 1926
graduate of Welcome High School and a 1956 graduate of High Point College.
A school teacher, she retired after 26 years of
service from Reedy Creek and Lexington City Schools. She was a member of Christ Chapel
United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Carrie Clayton Bible Class and
United Methodist Women. She played the piano at Ebenezer United Methodist Church for 26
years and was a charter member of the Davidson County Teachers Association.
Her husband, the Rev. A.S. Raper, died on Oct. 30,
1939.
Survivors include a daughter Olivia Raper, of the
home; a sister, Euzelia Johnson, Lexington; and two brothers, T. Eugene Lopp,Lexington,
and Paul Lopp, Greensboro.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Timberlake Chapel,
Piedmont Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev.Roger Weisner and the Rev. Steve Joyce.
Burial, Mount Olivet United Methodist Church cemetery.

Vallie Campbell Estes
KANNAPOLIS Vallie Campbell Estes, 88, of
China Grove, died Friday (Oct. 15, 1999) at Big Elm Nursing Center after a period of
declining health.
Born Mar. 15, 1911, in Iredell County, Mrs. Estes
was a daughter of the late William E. and Emma Padgett Campbell. Educated in the Iredell
County Schools, she was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of China Grove.
Her husband, George A Estes, a son, Troy E. Estes,
and a daughter, Shirley Witherspoon, preceded her in death.
Services:Graveside service, 2 p.m. Sunday, Oakwood
Cemetery, Statesville, conducted by the Rev. Randy Crowell and the Rev. Mike Long. Lyerly
Funeral Home is in charge.
Visitation:The family will be at the home of her
niece with whom she made her home, Carolyn Lineberry, 1955 Miller Road, China Grove.
