Mary White Jones Brady

The funeral will be Thursday for Mary White Jones Brady, 84, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Oct. 12, 1999) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after a period of declining health.

Born July 11, 1915, in Rowan County, Mrs. Brady was a daughter of the late James Alfred and Annice Leach Jones. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she retired from Belk-Harry Co., Salisbury, after 25 years. She was a an active member of Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a life member of Circle No. 1 of the church and the Co-worker’s Class. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Salisbury Chapter 117, Rowan County Rose Society and Rowan County Shrinettes.

Her husband, Paul A. Brady, died Nov. 13, 1993.

Survivors include son Jack A. Brady, Greensboro; daughter Mary Ann Rascoe, Mint Hill; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home’s James C. Lyerly Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Kelley, pastor, Coburn Memorial United Methodist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2-3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Guy Loraine Brooks

KANNAPOLIS — Guy Loraine Brooks, 64, Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at his home.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Darlene Green

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Friday for Darlene Cates Green, 65, 2506 Dawson St., who died Tuesday (Oct. 12, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after nine months of declining health and six months of serious illness.

Born Feb. 12, 1934, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Green was a daughter of the late Charlie and Emma Duncan Cates. A homemaker, she was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Survivors include husband Norman “Ray” Green; son Charles R. Green, Kannapolis; and two grandchildren.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday, Liberty Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ralph Robinette. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Dawson Street.

Mary Evelyn Bare Lyon

MOCKSVILLE — Mary Evelyn Bare Lyon, 71, U.S. Hwy. 64 West, died Tuesday (Oct. 12, 1999) at her home.

Born Aug. 30, 1928, in Ashe County, Mrs. Lyon was a daughter of the late Roger and Ida Virginia Johnson Bare. A Presbyterian, she worked at Monleigh Garment Co. for 32 years.

Survivors include husband Guy Wesley Lyon; daughters Terry Lyon Markland, Winston-Salem, Patricia Lyon Carter, Advance, Debbie Lyon Chaffin, Mocksville, and Ritz Ann Lyon Reeves, Augusta, Ga.; brothers Bill Bare, Jefferson, and Bud Bare, West Jefferson; sister Joan Head, West Jefferson; half sister Christy Bare Hurley, Jefferson; stepmother Leola Jenkins Bare, Jefferson; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Marshall. Burial, Rose Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Eloise Lowrance Pethel

LANDIS — Eloise Lowrance Pethel, 300 N. Beaver St., died Wednesday (Oct. 13, 1999) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

John Edgar Pitts

MOORESVILLE — John Edgar Pitts, 71, 728 Bowleys Quarters Road, Baltimore, Md., formerly of Mooresville, died Saturday (Oct. 9, 1999) at Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Oct. 18, 1927, in Lexington, Mr. Pitts was a son of the late William Henry and Grace Moore Pitts. He worked for 39 years at Bethlehem Steel, retiring as a millwright with the OSHAprogram.He was a member of Statesville VFWPost 2031 and Stanfield Chapter 68 DAV.

Survivors include wife Kathryn Waugh Pitts; brothers Ernest and Carl F. Pitts, both of Baltimore, Md.; and sister Nola Byers, Baltimore, Md.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Christy. Burial, Glenwood Memorial Park. Military rites will be observed.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Kenneth W. Ritzenthalor

ALBEMARLE — Kenneth W. “Ritz” Ritzenthalor, 74, 28758 Canton Road, died Monday (Oct. 11, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born June 24, 1925, in Rochester, N.Y., Mr. Ritzenthalor was a son of the late William and Loretta Huether Ritzenthalor. He was data processing manager for Rochester Telephone Co. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he received a Bronze Star for his service in the European Theatre during World War II.

Survivors include daughters Oynettz Ritz, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Jerry (Nancy) Sprague and Mrs. Vincent (Susan) Terrana, both of Rochester, N.Y.; sister Edith Carr, Rochester, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: Noon-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Canton Road.

 

Charles F. Skorpik

TYNDALL, S.D. — Charles Frank Skorpik, 84, Tyndall, father of Sheryl Johnson, Salisbury, N.C., died Sunday (Oct. 10, 1999) at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Funeral services were held this morning at Tyndall Presbyterian Church.

 

Nelson ‘Dink’ Stewart

MOCKSVILLE — Nelson Devarner “Dink” Stewart, 77, U.S. Hwy. 64 East, died Monday (Oct. 11, 1999) at Davie County Hospital.

Born July 10, 1922, in Davie County, Mr. Stewart was a son of the late Cora Stewart. He retired as shop foreman from Dixie Furniture Co., Lexington, after 46 years. He was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include wife Frances Allen Stewart; son Noral “Butch” Stewart, Raleigh; daughter Nola Jean Markland, Advance; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 today, Fulton United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Jack Wallace. Burial, church cemetery.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.
