6121 Amberly Lane, died Sunday in Huntersville Oaks, Huntersville, after several weeks of
illness.
Born April 3, 1933, in Mount Ulla, Mr. Carr was a
son of Hettie Carr Wilkerson of Salisbury and the late Everett Rhinehart. He attended
Rowan County schools and retired from PYA/Monarch in Charlotte.
He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist
Church, where he was vice president and a past president of the usher board, second vice
president of the Laymens League, a member of the trustee board and church bus
driver.
He was also a member of Central Mecklenburg
Association of Ushers and a Mason.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons
Ralph, Schyler and Kyle Carr, all of Salisbury, and Fred Sifford, Granite Quarry; stepsons
Allen and Corey Johnson, both of Charlotte; daughters Valire Carr Copeland, Pittsburgh,
Pa., and Marcella Denise Carr, Salisbury; stepdaughter, Tamara Johnson, Charlotte; brother
Nathaniel Reddick, Salisbury; sisters Mary E. Miller, Cleveland, Anne McNeal, Cheraw,
S.C., Barbara R. Allison, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Patricia Johnson, High Point; 16

Howard Russell Fincher, 94, of Salisbury, died
Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) at Northeast Medical Center, Concord, after a period of declining
health.
He was born Dec. 11, 1905 in Union County, the son
of the late Nellis Richardson Fincher and the late Lloyd L. Fincher.
Mr. Fincher was educated in the Union County
schools and retired after working 44 years with Cannon Mills. He was a member of St.
Johns Lutheran Church.
His first wife, Eulalie Neal Fincher preceded him
in death, as did his second wife, Lena S. Fincher.
Survivors include:sons James Reid Fincher of
Kannapolis, Billy Ray Fincher of Charlotte; step son Jimmy Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla.,
and stepdaughter Sara Faulkner of Thomasville. He is also survived by one grandchild, four

accident.
Born Aug. 21, 1951, in Siler City, Mr. Hilliard
was a son of William Dalton Hilliard, Wilmington, and the late Virginia Mae Ridenhour
Hilliard. Employed by Pro Cycle in Morganton, he earlier worked at PPGIndustries in
Lexington. He was a volunteer with South Lexington Fire Department and a Baptist.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the AARP and was an active member of
Pine Grove United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.
Her husband, Thomas H. Lisenby, died in 1984.

Register of Deeds from 1946 to 1958. He owned and operated Lomax Cafe and Grocery Store.
He was a member of Davidson County DAV and a
representative for District 8 DAVVolunteer Services. He was also a member of the VFW,
Woodmen of the World and was affiliated with Habitat for Humanity. A member of Southside
Baptist Church, he attended Refuge Baptist Church.
His first wife, Hattie Corriher Lomax, preceded
him in death.

of Deland, Fla., formerly of East Spencer, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) at Alliance Nursing
Center in Deland after a brief illness. She moved to Florida in January 1997.
Mrs. Lyerly was born March 18, 1915, in Rowan
County, the daughter of the late Annie Goodman Loflin and the late Fred Alexander Loflin.
She was educated in Rowan County Schools and was a
homemaker and a piano teacher.
Mrs. Lyerly was a member of Christ Lutheran Church
in East Spencer, where she served as organist and pianist for 65 years. She was a member
of the Women of the E.L.C.A. and the church Bible class.
Her husband, Grover L. Lyerly, preceded her in
death Sept. 5, 1977.
Mrs. Lyerly is survived by daughters Barbara
Lyerly Goins of Leesburg, Fla., and Judith Lynn Kahl of Hunt Valley, Md.; sister Cora Lee

a massive stroke this morning at 10:05 at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Robert Faires Bob Stone, 73, 217
Statesville Blvd., died Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) at his home.
Born July 10, 1926, in Charlotte, Mr. Stone was a
son of the late Esther Faires and Joseph James Stone. Educated in Asheville schools, he
graduated from N.C. State University in Raleigh with a degree in architecture.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World
War II in the South Pacific.
Formerly associated with John Ramsay
&Associates, he was still active with Robert R. Stone AIA, which he had operated for
40 years. He designed buildings and additions for the Rowan-Salisbury schools, including
North Rowan, Knollwood and China Grove elementary schools and China Grove Middle School.
He also designed the Salisbury Post press room,
First Union Bank on West Innes Street, Farmers & Merchants Bank in Granite Quarry and
on Jake Alexander Boulevard and Rufty-Holmes Senior Center. He did design work for the
Davie County schools, Livingstone and Rowan-Cabarrus Community colleges and the Rowan
County ABCBoard.
He was a life member of the Rowan County
Vocational Workshop board of directors, serving as president in 1976-77, and a member of
the Salisbury Planning Board for nine years and vice chairman for six years.
He was also a member of St. Lukes Episcopal
Church, Salisbury Kiwanis Club and the American Institute of Architects.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen
Fortinberry Stone on May 21, 1987, and a son, Robert Faires Stone Jr., on Feb. 21, 1978.
Survivors include daughter Rosemary Stone
