Annie Bringle CornatzeAnnie Bringle Cornatzer, 91, of Salisbury died Friday (Oct. 1, 1999) at
Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health.
Born July 28, 1908 in Rowan
County, Mrs. Cornatzer was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Lizzie Hoffner
Bringle.
Mrs. Cornatzer attended Flint Hill
School in St. Matthews and was a former member of the Robert F. Hoke Chapter of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy and the Real Daughters of Confederate Soldiers. Her father,
John Calvin Bringle, was one of 4,000 survivors of a Union prison in Point Lookout, Md.
where 16,000 soldiers died.
A retired seamstress for N.C.
Finishing Co., Mrs. Cornatzer was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she
was a member of the Lula Butner Sunday school. She was a former member of St. Matthews
Lutheran Church.
Her first husband, Walter R.
Poteat, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband,
John Frank Cornatzer of Salisbury; son Walter Poteat of Salisbury; daughter Margaret
Johnson of Sun City, Fla.; half-brother C.M.Troutman of Kannapolis; four grandchildren and
six great-grandchildren.

Carolyn Chappell Greer
Carolyn Chappell Greer, 50, of 314
Laura Spring Drive, died Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a
period of declining health.
Mrs. Greer was a native of Durham
and former Salisbury resident. A homemaker, she had lived in Salisbury since March. She
attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband,
Alan V. Greer; daughters Kimberly Greer of Cary and Brandi Greer of Salisbury; parents
W.A. and Margaret Chappell, brother Jerry Chappell and sister Gwen Chappell, all of Stem;
and one grandson.

Doris Rodgers Purser
KANNAPOLIS Doris Rodgers
Purser, 61 of 1404 Ontario St. died Saturday (Oct. 2, 1999) at her home after a period of
declining health.
Born Dec. 24, 1937 in Cabarrus
County, Ms. Purser was employed at Cannon Mills Plant No. 1. In later years, she
worked for Cooks Department Store in Kannapolis, Sears in Concord and with her son,
Terry, at Purser Central Rewinding in Concord. She was an avid piano player and poet.
Her sister, Marie Scarboro,
preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter
Michelle P. Barringer of Kannapolis; sons Terry E. Purser of Kannapolis and Rodrick W.
Purser of Davidson; brothers Calvin Rodgers and Harold Lawson Rodgers, both of
Kannapolis; sisters Lucille Moss of Kannapolis and Catherine Wentz of Concord; and
companion Harold Lear of Kannapolis.

Mildred Osborne Wood, 80, of 1916
Ganell Ave. died Friday (Oct. 1, 1999) at her home following a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 17, 1919 in Shady
Valley, Tenn., Mrs. Wood was the daughter of the late Zeb and Genora Plummer Osborne.
Educated in Davie County schools,
Mrs. Wood worked for Stanback Co. for 30 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a
member of Enon Baptist Church, a training union teacher and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband,
R.J. Wood; daughter Judy Wood Hinkle of Salisbury; sisters Grace Heilig of Salisbury and
Connie Kiser of Concord; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m.
