Mary Hanson Burges The funeral will be Saturday for Mary Hanson Burges, 74, 300 N. Fulton
St., who died Tuesday (Sept. 28, 1999) at her home.
Born Dec. 9, 1924, in Salisbury,
Mrs. Burges was a daughter of the late David L. and Mary Freeborn Hanson. She was a
graduate of Boyden High School and Catawba College.
She had taught elementary school
in Winston-Salem, Raleigh and High Point and had servedd as a substitute teacher in the
Salisbury schools. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and the Salisbury
Country Club.
Her husband, John Munford Burges,
died Oct. 25, 1988.
She is survived by a number of
cousins.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, chapel
of St. Johns Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Mary C. Peters and the Rev. John
B. Tucker, associate pastors. Burial, City Memorial Park.
Visitation: At the cemetery after
the service.

Veola Smith Miller
MOCKSVILLE Veola Smith
Miller, 86, Mocksville, died Thursday (Sept. 30, 1999) at her home after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 1, 1912, in Davie
County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late Joseph L. and Rose Roberson Smith. Educated
in the Davie County schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Franklin Baptist
Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Daniel Boone Miller,
died Jan. 8, 1977.
Survivors include sons Daniel
Boone Miller Jr., Salisbury, and Mathias E. Miller, Gainesville, Ga.; daughter Gloria R.
Miller, Mocksville; brothers Sid Smith and J.L. Smith Jr., both of Mocksville; sister
Beatrice S. Shaver, Salisbury; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; five
great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Services: 4 p.m. Saturday,
Summersett Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Gary Hoffman,
FirstBaptist Church, Norwood, and the Rev. Darrell Cox, Trinity Baptist Church,
Mocksville. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the
funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Janie Kerley Vogler
COOLEEMEE - Janie Kerley Vogler,
72, Center Street, died Wednesday (Sept. 29, 1999) at her residence.
Born Nov. 5, 1926, in Davie
County, Mrs. Vogler was a daughter of the late Isom E. and Essie Dunn Kerley. She was a
licensed practical nurseat Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for many years.
A member of Cooleemee United
Methodist Church, she had served as secretary of the administrative board, Sunday school
teacher and choir member. A member of the VFW auxiliary, Mrs. Vogler had served as
president of the local chapter, district chaplain and district junior vice president.
She had done volunteer work at
Cooleemee School, Cooleemee Branch Library and Davie County Hospital. Mrs. Vogler was a
member of Cooleemee Historical Association.
Survivors include husband Thomas
Vogler; son Gary T. Vogler, Cooleemee; daughters Lynne V. ONeal, Cooleemee, and Amy
V. Young, Mocksville; brothers Jerry W. Kerley, Mocksville, and Leroy I. Kerley,
Salisbury; sisters Katheryn H. Young, Mocksville, and Peggy H. Hill, Cooleemee; two
grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Services:2 p.m. Saturday, Davie
Funeral Service, Mocksville, conducted by the Rev. Dennis Marshall. Burial, Legion
Memorial Park, Cooleemee.
