Violet Irene Smith Armsworthy, 90, Mocksville, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at
Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born April 1, 1909, in Davie County, Mrs.
Armsworthy was a daughter of the late Floyd and Josephine Tucker Smith. A homemaker, she
was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Boss Rensy Armsworthy, died in 1978.
Survivors include sons Ricky G. and Barry R.
Armsworthy, both of Advance; Maxine A. Spillman and Sherry A. Franco, both of Advance;
sisters Ruby S. McKnight, Grey S. Robertson and Jessie Hodson, all of Advance; two
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Bethlehem

Highway 138, died Monday (Nov. 29, 1999) at his home.
Born Dec. 5, 1914, in Stanly County, Mr. Burgess
was a son of the late William Mitchell and Sarah Louellen Cagle Burgess. He was a farmer.
Survivors include wife Margaret Lucile Allen
Burgess; sons Darrell and John Burgess, both of Oakboro; daughters Carolyn Carpenter,
Norwood, Judy Hinson, Marshville, and Jean Little, Oakboro; twin sister Maude Barbee,
Oakboro; another sister, Emma Tucker, Albemarle; 12 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.

Born Jan. 6, 1914, in Stanly County, Mrs. Helms
was a daughter of the late Titus Franklin and Nealie Ann Whitley Barbee. She was former
owner of Bessies Florist Shop.
Her husband, John Roy Helms, died in 1973.
Survivors include son Roy Helms, Oakboro; brother
Luther Barbee, Albemarle; sisters Florence Chaney, Albemarle, and Edna Hartsell,New
London; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Charlotte Ave., died Saturday (Nov. 27, 1999) in Waynesboro.
Born Sept. 19, 1958, in Concord, Mr. Hill was the
son of the late Frances L. Shue Hill and Charles M. Hill, Salisbury. He was employed in
the shipping and receiving department of Burris RefrigeratedServices, Lyndhurst.
Survivors, in addition to his father and
stepmother, include wife Cynthia Bragg Hill; daughter Ashley Nicole Hill; stepmother Judy
Hill, Salisbury; and sister Betty Donahue, Salisbury.

LINWOOD Gladys Fitzgerald Jarratt, 96, 2593
Swicegood Road, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born April 19, 1903, in Davidson County, Mrs.
Jarratt was a daughter of the late Charles Francis and Mary Elizabeth Molly
Meacham Fitzgerald. She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church, where she was active
in Youngs Bible Class. She taught Sunday school for many years.
Her husband, James Wade Jarratt, whom she married
Jan. 15, 1927, died Sept. 14, 1979. A son, James Alton Jarratt, also preceded her in
death.
Survivors include daughter Mrs. K. Wayne
(Alma)Grubb, Churchland; son Edward Lynn Jarratt, of the home; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

Born Sept. 16, 1906, in Lincoln County, Mrs.
McDonald was a daughter of the late Sidney Allen and Nannie Lou Cashion Brotherton.
Educated in the Lincoln County schools, she had retired from Linn Mills, Landis. She was a
member of Webbs ChapelMethodist Church in Lincoln County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy L.
McDonald, a son, Arnold Bo McDonald, and a daughter, Christine Mack.
Survivors include daughters Maxine Strickland,
Salisbury, and Colleen Upright, Kannapolis; six grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS The funeral will beWednesday for
Hannah Sanford Whitten Morris, 74, formerly of Pine Street, who died Monday (Nov. 29,
1999) at Brian Center Health and Retirement, Mooresville, after 11 months of declining
health and three months of serious illness.
Born June 15, 1925, in Lumpkin County, Ga., Mrs.
Morris was a daughter of the late Julia M. Sanford. A homemaker, she had formerly worked
at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, No. 7 weave room.
She was preceded in death by her first husband,
Vie Cletus Whitten, and her second husband, George Morris.
Survivors include daughters Hannah Janet Hilton,
Kannapolis, Judy Montgomery, Rising Sun, Md., and Eyvonne Penley, Statesville; son Vie
Junior Whitten, Kannapolis; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

BusPope, 84, 1270 Partee Lane, died Monday (Nov. 29, 1999) at Brian Center
Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after two months of serious illness.
Born Aug. 30, 1915, in Rowan County, Mr. Pope was
a son of the late Frank and Ida Holt Pope. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had
retired as a nursing assistant at the Salisbury VAMedical Center.
He was a member of Sandy Ridge AMEZion Church,
Landis, where he was on the trustee board and the life members council. A U.S. Navy
veteran, he served during World War II. He was also a member of J.C. Price American Legion
Post 107.
Survivors include wife Inez Morrison Pope;
daughter Carolyn P. Hinton, ChinaGrove; sisters Audrey Simmons, Flat Rock, Elnora Ramseur,
Landis, and Doretha Hall, Statesville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
