Robert D. Barefoot

KANNAPOLIS — A memorial service will be held Wednesday for Robert David “Bo” Barefoot Jr., who died Friday (Nov. 25, 1999) as the result of an automobile accident in Maryland.

Born Nov. 12, 1983, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of Robert D. Barefoot Sr. and Patrice B. Gulledge. He was a 10th grade student at A. L. Brown High School, where he played soccer.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include stepfather Larry M. Gulledge; brothers David C. Voorhees, Brennan L. Barefoot and Garrett E. Barefoot; stepsister Brandy N. Gulledge; grandparents Helen B. and Robert L. Norton.

Services: Memorial, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Don Shuman.

Memorials: A.L. Brown High School Soccer Team, 415 First St., Kannapolis, N.C. 28083.

Sebe Alexander Cauble

GOLD HILL — Sebe Alexander Cauble, 88, Gold Hill, died Saturday (Nov. 27, 1999) at his home after a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 9, 1911, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Cauble was a son of the late Martin Alexander and Lillie Sides Cauble. Educated in the Cabarrus County schools, he retired as foreman of the spooler room after 55 years with Cannon Mills, Rockwell. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Rockwell, where he was a former deacon, an active trustee and in all phases of church work. He was also a member of the Young at Heart Club.

Survivors include wife Kathryn McIntyre Cauble, whom he married Sept. 22, 1934; son Ronald W. Cauble, Lexington; daughter Carolyn Hartung, Salisbury; sisters Mrs. Arnold (Bertha) Burris, Lexington, Mrs. Woodrow (Mary) Troutman, Charlotte, Mrs. Carl (Dora) Lyerly, Faith, Mrs. Claude (Marva) Johnson and Mrs. Spencer (Beatrice) Kluttz, both of Rockwell, and Mrs. Junior (Willene) Efird, Salisbury; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 today, First Baptist Church, Rockwell, conducted Dr. Benny L. Vickrey, pastor, and the Rev. Cameron McGill, associate pastor. Deacons and trustees will be seated as a group in the church. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

Margaret Gabriel Graff

Margaret Gabriel Morse Graff, 88, of Trinity Oaks Retirement Center, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 31, 1911, in Catawba County, Mrs. Graff was a daughter of the late Henry M. and Bettie Irene Sigmon Gabriel. A graduate of Cleveland High School, she received training as a registered nurse from Davis Hospital School of Nursing, Statesville.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, she served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She had retired as a nurse at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury after earlier working as a VA nurse in Washington, D.C.

Survivors include brother Merlin Gabriel, Aiken, S.C.

Services: Graveside, 10 a.m. Tuesday, Cleveland Cemetery, conducted by a VA Medical Center chaplain.

Visitation: At the cemetery after the service.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Grace Osborne Heilig

Grace Osborne Heilig, 71, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at her home after a period of declining health and two months of serious illness.

Born Feb. 5, 1928, in Shady Valley, Tenn., Mrs. Heilig was a daughter of the late Zeb Vance and Genora Plummer Osborne. Educated in the Davie and Rowan county schools, she was a graduate of Boyden High School. She had retired from the Salisbury VA Medical Center.

Her husband, Glenn Morris Heilig, died Nov. 24, 1974.

Survivors include Glenn M. “Mike” Heilig Jr., Salisbury; daughters Gayla H. Lyerly Ramona “Mona” Mowry and Beth H. Masingo, all of Salisbury; sister Connie Kiser, Concord; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Don Newman, pastor, Gay’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Seyborn Blair Jones

KANNAPOLIS — Seyborn Blair Jones, 79, 2302 Lane St., died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at his home after two weeks of declining health.

Born May 20, 1920, in Union County, Mr. Jones was a son of the late William Thomas and Blanch Hinson Jones. Educated in the Union County schools, he worked at Cannon Mills as supervisor of the packing department until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church.

His wife, Frances Helms Jones, died Oct. 2, 1995.

Survivors include son Randy Jones, Kannapolis; daughter Patricia Carswell, Denver; brother Edwin Jones, Charlotte; sisters Audey Priece, Marshville, and Ann Anderson, China Grove; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Franklin Heights Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Gary Byrd. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Lane Street.

Carl M. Mixer

Carl Middleton Mixer, 65, died Saturday (Nov. 27, 1999) at his home.

Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Waverly, W.Va., he was a son of the late Frank and Ethel Elizabeth Smith Mixer. Educated in the West Virginia schools, he retired as a packer for PPG. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea.

Survivors include wife Agnes Mecimore Mixer; sons Stephen Edward and Eric Wayne Mixer, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter Tammie Lynn, Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsons Terry Wayne Harrington, Mauldin, S.C., Johnny Harrington, China Grove, and Clegg Harrington, Concord; stepdaughters Jo Ann Montgomery, Salisbury, and Betty Fesperman, China Grove; brother Stephen R. Mixer, Parkersburg, W.Va.; sisters Norma Dye, Parkersburg, W.Va. and Margaret Michael, Mannington, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Northcrest Chapel of Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. Derald Adams. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Hannah Whitten Morris

KANNAPOLIS — Hannah Whitten Morris, 74, formerly of Kannapolis, died Monday (Nov. 29, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Retirement, Mooresville.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Harry Kale Murphy

Harry Kale Murphy, 79, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Born Aug. 21, 1920, in Hickory, Mr. Murphy was a son of the late Fred F. and Claudia Kale Murphy. A 1938 graduate of Hickory High School, he was partner and co-owner of Inland Lumber Co., Augusta, Ga. He had retired in 1972 from Fiber Industries, Salisbury.

A former president of the Men’s Club, Mr. Murphy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Samuel Spencer Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. He was active with the Boy Scouts in his earlier years and served as a flight instructor in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include wife Christine Roueche Murphy, whom he married Dec. 17, 1944; sons Tom and Rick Murphy, both of Salisbury; daughters Mrs. Allan (Ann M.) Rouzer, Salisbury, and Mrs. Lynn (Jean M.) Lindsay, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Bill Murphy, Hickory; sisters Mrs. Weldon (Nancy) Sheets and Jane Huggins, both of Hickory, and Clara McCree, Greensboro; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: Funeral mass of resurrection, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas P. Clements. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: Prayer service, 7 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:30.

Memorials: Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 120 N. Fulton St., Salisbury, N.C. 28144.

 

Flake Alexander Pope

CHINA GROVE — Flake Alexander Pope, 84, 1270 Partee Lane, died Monday (Nov. 29, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Faye Styers Trexler

GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Tuesday for Faye Styers Trexler, 77, Granite Quarry, who died Saturday (Nov. 27, 1999) at her home after a period of declining health.

Born April 20, 1922, in Randolph County, Mrs. Trexler was a daughter of the late Clyde and Rosa Belle Bonkemeyer Styers. A graduate of Spencer High School, she had retired after 45 years with AT &T and Bell South.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and its Morning Circle, the Salisbury Altrusa Club, AT&T Pioneers and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Ladies Auxiliary.

Her husband, George Adrian Trexler, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sister Helena Styers Conrad, Tacoma, Wash.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home’s James C. Lyerly Chapel, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Rodney Hagans, pastor, Central United Methodist Church. Burial, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: Noon-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home in Granite Quarry.

Ada Mauldin Vanhoy

ALBEMARLE — Ada Louise Mauldin Vanhoy, 77, 620 Heathwood Drive, died Saturday (Nov. 27, 1999) at Forest Oaks Healthcare Center.

Born July 31, 1922, in Stanly County, Mrs. Vanhoy was a daughter of the late Jonah and Wince Mauldin Mauldin. A retired textile employee, she had worked at E.J. Snyder Co. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Her husband, Ralph Franklin Vanhoy, died March 1, 1981.

Survivors include sons Hollie J. Vanhoy, Badin, and Jonah William Vanhoy, Albemarle; daughter Frankie Sue Dunn, Albemarle; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Stanly Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gary Pinon and Dr. James D. Tucker. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Frankie Sue Dunn, 1218 Wood St.

 

Tony L. Weaver

Tony L. Weaver, 32, Salisbury, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.
