Livingstone student faces drug charge

BY SCOTT JENKINS
SALISBURY POST

A Livingstone College student has been charged with possession and sale of crack cocaine in Iredell County.

Travis Doran Ramseur, a freshman, was charged with sale and delivery of cocaine and possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine.

The Nov. 15 arrest stems from a June 17 incident in which Ramseur allegedly sold 20 grams of crack cocaine to an undercover police officer, according to an Iredell County Sheriff’s Department report.

He was released on $15,000 bond and faces imprisonment if convicted.

The report also says that Ramseur is a football player at Livingstone College and faces the loss of a full scholarship if convicted.

Greg Richardson, Livingstone’s head football coach, said Ramseur is not on the school’s football team and is not receiving an athletic scholarship.

“We don’t know where they got that information,” Richardson said of the report. “Maybe Travis told them. I don’t know.”

Richardson called Ramseur a “fine football player” and said he had planned to invite him to play football next year, after he gained academic eligibility.

He said he’ll wait to find out if Ramseur is convicted and then what sanctions from Livingstone and the NCAA would apply before deciding Ramseur’s future with the team.
