Jennie Lucille Harwood Burge, 78, 904 Honeysuckle Lane, died Wednesday (Nov. 17,
1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born April 4, 1921, in Stanly County, Mrs. Burge
was a daughter of the late P.A. and Gertrude Eudy Harwood. A U.S. Army veteran of World
War II, she later worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
A retired medical secretary, she had worked for
Dr. F. W. Green. She was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
Survivors include son Roy K. Burge and brother Joe
B. Harwood, both of Albemarle.

Luther Franklin Faggart
KANNAPOLIS Luther Franklin Faggart, 88, 400
Airport Road, died Thursday (Nov. 18, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born June 23, 1911, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Faggart was a son of the late Charles Caldwell and Anna Krimminger Faggart. He retired
from Cannon Mills, where he had worked in the No. 6 and No. 1 weave rooms. He was a member
of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove.
A son, Max M. Faggart, preceded him in death.
Survivors include other son Richard F. Faggart,
Salisbury; daughters Linda F. Bostian, Salisbury, and Peggy Troutman, China Grove;
brothers Lonnie and Clyde Faggart, both of Rockwell; sisters Eula Goodnight, Kannapolis,
and Mable Schenck, Rockwell; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Lomax Fincher
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Saturday for
Phyllis Lomax Fincher, 63, 2136 S. Main St., who died Thursday (Nov. 18, 1999) at
NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 14, 1936, in Rowan County, Mrs. Fincher
was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Pauline Cress Lomax. Previously employed at
Barnhardt and Walker Advertising Agency, Concord, she was a member of Second Presbyterian
Church. She was also past president of Kannapolis Credit Womens Club and Junior
Womens Club and a charter member of PSA.
Survivors include her husband, Reid Fincher; son
George L. Smith; and sisters Nancye Lomax Summers, Charlotte, and Linda Lomax McKnight,
Kannapolis.

Born Nov. 30, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Foster
was a daughter of the late Willie A. and Pearl Elizabeth Weaver Sheets. She retired from
Fieldcrest Cannons winder room and was a member of Friendship Freewill Baptist
Church, Kannapolis.
Her husband, Charlie Foster, preceded her in death
and a son, Donnie Ray Foster, died April 16, 1999.
Survivors include sisters Frances Barnhardt and
Pauline Nichols, both of Kannapolis, and Katherine Smith, Concord; two grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild.

Edward Furr 69, of Rockwell, who died Sunday (Nov. 14, 1999) at the W.G. Hefner Salisbury
VA Medical Center. Burial was in the Salisbury National Cemetery.
Born Feb. 28, 1930 in Cabarrus County, he was a
son of the late Homer Clyde and Viola Smith Furr. A supervisor at Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant
6, he was a member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Concord, and was a U.
S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Corzine Furr,
whom he married Sept. 23, 1951; sons Stephen Douglas Furr, Midland, Clyde Edward Furr Jr.,
Mt. Pleasant, and William Randolph Randy Furr, Rockwell; daughters Kathy
Wilson, Concord, Deborah Sides, Loris, S.C., Annis Jeannette Phelps, Mebane, Janice

Roland Durwood Moose, 75, 516 Evelyn Ave., who died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at NorthEast
Medical Center, Concord.
Born April 29, 1924, in Catawba County, Mr. Moose
was a son of the late Colen and Sally Hedrick Moose. Retired from Bi-Lo Inc., he served in
the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Jackson Park Baptist Church, where
he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy
Dot Campbell Moose; son Roland Durwood Moose Jr., Oakboro; daughter Debbie
Davis, China Grove; brothers Homard and Joe Moose, both of Maiden; sister Dot Fulwood,

The funeral will be Saturday for Irene Miller
Parks, 97, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Nov. 18, 1999) at Edwards Family Care after a
period of declining health.
Born May 9, 1902, in Rowan County, Mrs. Parks was
a daughter of the late Abram Phillip and Laura Jane Morgan Miller. A homemaker, she was
educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church
but attended Trading Ford Baptist Church when her health permitted.
Her husband, Lattie Edward Parks, preceded her in
death.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Bringle Ferry Road, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at her home after three
weeks of illness.
Born May 1, 1924, in Spartanburg, S.C., she was a
daughter of the late James Wesley and Faye Fowler Ragan. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Carol Phifer, died in January 1965.

Sharples, 77, 615 Elm St., who died Thursday (Nov. 18, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center after an illness of several days.
Born Dec. 8, 1922, in Iredell County, she was a
daughter of the late James Hunter and Pauline Eckles Hawkins. A retired employee of New
York City, she was a member of Lilys Chapel Church of God, where she was assistant
minister and a member of the missionary department and various other organizations.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Sharples
Sr.; sons George W. Sharples Jr. and Brian Sharples, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Dallas
and Wayne Sharples, both of Guyana; daughter Maxine Sadler, Brooklyn, N.Y.; brothers

KANNAPOLIS Harold Lynn Stirewalt, 39, of
6621 Charlie Walker Road, died Thursday at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born Sept. 13, 1960, in Cabarrus County, he was a
son of Betty Jenkins Stirewalt of Kannapolis and the late Guy Henry Stirewalt Sr. He owned
and operated Stirewalt Home Improvements and was a member of Independence Square Freewill
Baptist Church and the Kannapolis Moose Lodge. A lifetime resident of the area, he
attended Northwest Cabarrus High School and was an avid fan of Shane Brafford Racing Team.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his
wife, Jill Rape Stirewalt; son Zachary L. Stirewalt of the home; daughters Kandas N.
Stirewalt and Jessica M. Stirewalt, both of the home; stepdaughter Christy N. Rollings,
Kannapolis; brothers Guy H. Mike Stirewalt, Kannapolis and David L. Stirewalt,
