Willie Perkins
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Friday for
Aaron Willie Perkins, 69, 1109 Perkins Drive, who died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at
NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health and several
months of serious illness.
Born Aug. 8, 1930, in Union County, Mr. Perkins
was a son of the late Raymond Isaac and Nezzie Riner Perkins. A retired painting
contractor, he had also painted for Cannon Mills and Fieldcrest Cannon. A veteran, he
served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
His wife, Donnie Roach Perkins, died Feb. 21,
1991.
Survivors include sons Aaron W. Perkins Jr.,
Johnson City,Tenn., and Mike and Jeff Perkins, both of Kannapolis; sisters Lucille
Haywood, Waxhaw, and Rachel Cline, Kannapolis; and five grandchildren.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. At

Ronald Dale Slough
ALBEMARLE Ronald Dale Slough, 37, 2183-D
Nawao Court, Wahiawa, Hawaii, died Saturday (Nov. 13, 1999) in Hawaii.
Born Feb. 2, 1962, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Slough
was a son of the late Eddie Odell Slough and the son and stepson of Wanda Faye Sloop
Slough and William Harold Gardner, Oakboro. He was a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army
stationed in Hawaii. He was earlier stationed at Fort Bragg with Psychological Operations.
Survivors, in addition to his mother and
stepfather, include wife Dany Lynne Foster Slough; sons Breanna and Samuel Dalton Slough,
both of Wahiawa, Hawaii; daughter Megan Slough, Wahiawa, Hawaii; and brothers O.V. and
Timothy Scott Garner and Gerald Wade Slough, all of Albemarle.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Big Lick Baptist Church,
conducted by the Rev. Larry Linker. Burial, Oakboro Cemetery. Military rites by Active
Duty Personnel from Fort Bragg.

Gladie Fite Benfield
CONCORD Gladie Fite Benfield, 72, 145
Edgewood Ave. NE, died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at her home.
Born April 8, 1927, in Union County, Mrs. Benfield
was a daughter of the late Quincy A. and Mae Goodman Fite. She was retired from Cannon
Mills. She was a member of Concord ARPChurch and a past member, elder and deacon of
Bayless Presbyterian Church.
She had also been a youth leader, Cub Scout den
mother of Pack 40, advisor to Greendragon Youth Organization and a volunteer with
Helpline. She was named Den Mother of the Year three years in a row.
Survivors include husband David Buddy
E. Benfield; son Bobby Benfield, Fishermans Cove; sisters Peggy Medlin and Louise
McGuire, both of Kannapolis, Doris Goodman, Salisbury, and Pat Blackmon, China Grove; two
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Isabelle G. Blackman
Isabelle Gibson Blackman, 77, 701 Pinehurst St.,
died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center following three weeks of
serious illness.
Born April 5, 1922, in Granite Quarry, Mrs.
Blackman was a daughter of the late Carrie Smith Gibson Maxwell and Arthur Smith. She
graduated from Granite Quarry High School and Livingstone College in 1944. She also
received a masters degree from Appalachian State University.
A retired teacher with the Salisbury City Schools,
Mrs. Blackman was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers.
Survivors include her husband, Alonzo Blackman;
son Rodney W. Blackman, East Point, Ga.; daughter Kristy L. Blackman, Charlotte; three
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Jr., president of Livingstone College, and Ida Hauser Duncan, longtime teacher in local

Born Sept. 27, 1910, in Cook County, Ga., Mr.
Harris was a son of the late W.H. and Irene Griner Harris. He retired in 1980 from Cannon
Mills Co. Plant 1 spinning room after 45 years with the company.
He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church,
Graham Masonic Lodge 695 and Mariam Winslow Chapter of Eastern Star.
His wife, Fannie S. Harris, died May 25, 1999.
Survivors include sons Roy Q. Harris, Morganton,
and Dallas L. Harris, Wrightsville Beach; sisters Mrs. Clyde Tillman, Brunswick, Ga., and
Camilla McKenny, Hazelhurst, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

D.C., and was last employed at American Food Service. She was a former member of St.
Matthews Baptist Church, Rockwell.

Walter Lee Wall
MOCKSVILLE Walter Lee Wall, 78, Hobson
Drive, died Tuesday (Nov. 16, 1999) at the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury
after several months of declining health.
Born Nov. 13, 1921, in Davie County, Mr. Wall was
a son of the late Lula Lanier and Charlie Lemuel Wall. He retired from the VAMedical
Center after 30 years as a warehouseman.
Mr. Wall was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II
and a Purple Heart recipient.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Baker Wall, to
whom he had been married 51 years; son Richard Lee Wall, Sylva; daughter Mrs. Michael
(Jeanne)Melvin, Concord; brothers Tom and Roy Wall, both of Mocksville; sisters Evelyn
Boger and Frances McClamrock, both of Mocksville; and two grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday graveside, U.S. National
Cemetery of Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Charles Stewart with military rites conducted
by the 11th District Memorial Honor Guard.
