Carmen OReilly Ammons, 72, 602 Maupin Ave.,
died Sunday (Nov. 14, 1999) at her home.
Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Mobile, Newfoundland,
Canada, Mrs. Ammons was a daughter of the late Terrence and Mary Frances Ronayne
OReilly. She was educated at Memorial University, St. Johns, Newfoundland, and
the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She was a teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic
School and West Junior High School prior to retiring in 1991. She was a member of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church and a 40-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include husband Dallas L. Ammons, whom
she married April 18, 1949; son John A. Ammons, Charlotte; daughters Mrs. Danny (Michele
A.) Crews, Mount Airy, Mrs. Tom (Terrie A.) Rallings, Matthews, Mrs. Mike (Pat A.)
Johnson, Granite Quarry, Mrs. Matt (Karen A.)Kendrick, Clemmons, and Mrs. John (Leigh
A.)Grimes, Salisbury; brother Terry OReilly, St. Johns, Newfoundland; sisters
Mrs. Fred (Madonna O.) Johnson, Lyndonhurst, N.Y., and Blanche O. Hutchings, Mobile,

Born April 15, 1923, in Davidson County, Mrs. Ashe
was a daughter of the late Coley Daniel and Viola Ida Miller Hargrave. Educated in the
DavidsonCounty schools, she was formerly employed by Klopman Mills, Denton, and a member
of First Baptist Church, Southmont.
Survivors include daughter Barbara Giles,
Lexington; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

CONCORD Bertha (Joe) Scarboro Crowe, 84,
formerly of Barr Road, died Monday (Nov. 15, 1999) at Big Elm Nursing Center after two
years of declining health and six months of serious illness.

disability. A member of Friendship Freewill Baptist Church, he was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy.
A daughter, Cathy Lane Hilton, preceded him in

formerly of 313 N. Franklin St., died Sunday (Nov. 14, 1999) at Concord Nursing Center,
Concord, after a year of declining health.
Born June 15, 1914, in Pelham, S.C., Mrs. McSwain
was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Mabel Steading Wood. Educated in the South
Carolina schools, she retired from China Grove Mills inspecting department. She was a
member of First Baptist Church, China Grove, Fidelis Sunday School Class and the Oasis
Senior Citizens group.
Her husband,Worth McSwain, died Nov. 17, 1970.
Survivors include son the Rev. Ronald W. McSwain,

MOCKSVILLE Katie Carolyn Gough Reavis, 54,
Ricky Dale Lane, died Saturday (Nov. 13, 1999) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical
Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Jan. 10, 1945, in Forsyth County, she was a
daughter of the late Vodie H. and Blanche Cranfill Gough. A homemaker, she was a graduate
of James A. Gray High School in 1963. She was a member of Hope Baptist Tabernacle and past
president of the N.C. Paraplegic Association.
Her husband, Wayne Reavis, died in 1998.
Survivors include daughters Bridgett Enale and
Leslie Reavis, both of Mocksville; brother Vergil Gough, Winston-Salem; and one
grandchild.

Archie Clayton Skipper
SPENCER Funeral services were Sunday for
Archie Clayton Skipper, 78, Spencer, who died Friday (Nov. 12, 1999) at his home after two
months of serious illness.
Born Jan. 30, 1921, in Piedmont, S.C., Mr. Skipper
was a son of the late Ollie and Janie Christenberry Skipper. He was educated in the Rowan
County schools. He had been employed by Pet Dairy and later retired at the rank of
lieutenant from the Spencer Police Department after 22 years. A veteran of the U.S. Army
Air Corps, he served in the Burma-China Campaign during World War II. He was a 32nd degree
Mason, a member of Spencer Moose Lodge 543 and the Scottish Rite Bodies, Charlotte Valley.
A son,Donald Clayton Skipper, died Dec. 9, 1970,
and his wife, Martha Ann Potter Skipper, died Jan. 26, 1992.
Survivors include other son Ronald Archie Skipper,
Spencer; sisters Jo Sherrill, Lynchburg, Va., and Ann Cress, Richmond, Va.; and three
grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held Sunday at
Rowan Memorial Park. Dr. Douglas Louie officiated.

The funeral is today for Annie Little Walker, 94,
Salisbury, who died Friday (Nov. 12, 1999) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after a
period of declining health.
Born May 5, 1905, in Rowan County, Mrs. Walker
retired from the textile industry and later worked at Spencer Nurse Care Center. She was a
member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Her husband, A.F. Walker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services: Graveside, 2 today, family plot at
Chestnut Hill Cemetery. The Rev. William Ragsdale, pastor of Main Street United Methodist
Church, will officiate.
