- Vallie Belle Barlow Dunn, 88, 602 Cadillac St., died Thursday (Nov. 11, 1999)at
NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health.
Born June 15, 1911, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Dunn
was a daughter of the late Sara E. Roberts and Rudolph E. Barlow. She was employed with
Cannon Mills Co., Plant 4, cloth room for many years before her retirement in 1974.
She was a member of Midway United Methodist
Church, Kannapolis, where she was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and was
formerly active with the Billie Reed Circle.
Her husband, Jesse C. Dunn, died in Aug. 20, 1972,
and her son, Bill Dunn, died in 1969.
Survivors include sons Wayne Dunn, Kannapolis, and
Ed Dunn, Midlothian, Va.; four grandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

Everette Lewey Lawson
Everette Lewey Lawson, 71, Salisbury, died Friday
(Nov. 12, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health and
six months of serious illness.
Born April 11, 1928, in Yards, Va., Mr. Lawson was
a son of the late Rebecca Mabe and William Reece Lawson. Educated in the West Virginia
schools, he was associated with several mobile home companies prior to his retirement due
to ill health. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
His son, William Arnold Lawson, died Oct. 29,
1998.
Survivors include wife Elizabeth Shrewsbury
Lawson, whom he married Feb. 23, 1951; daughters Mrs. Brian (Deborah)Key and Mrs. Doug
(Loletta) Christy, both of Salisbury; brother William Junior Lawson, Bluefield, W.Va.;
sister Cora Kiser, Salem, Va.; and five grandchildren.

was the son of the late Edna Mae Bailey and Henry Moose. Mr. Moose was a plant manager for

Born Nov. 20, 1914, in Stanly County, she was a
daughter of the late William Asbury and Agnes Hatley Biles. A homemaker, she was a member
of the Full Gospel Mission.
Her husband, Lewis Daniel Norstrand, preceded her
in death.

KANNAPOLIS - Rosa Sellers Sutton, 87, 400 E. 27th
St., died Thursday (Nov. 11, 1999) at her residence after three years of declining health
and one week of serious illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1912, in Chesterfield County, S.C.,
Mrs. Sutton was a daughter of the late Minnie Tucker and Frank D. Sellers. Mrs. Sutton was
a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church.
Her husband, Carey D. Sutton, died in 1966.
Survivors include sons Joel Stephen Sutton, of the
home, and Thomas L. Sutton, Vienna, Va.; daughters Carey Sue Sutton, of the home, and
Cherry Sutton, Charlotte; sister Juanita Lisenby, Ruby, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, North Kannapolis Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Leon Hawks and the Rev. Dr. Richard Kremmer. Burial,
Carolina Memorial Park.

James Andrew Waddell Jr.
James Andrew Waddell Jr., 63, Hidden Creek Circle,
died Friday (Nov. 12, 1999)at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of critical
illness.
Born Oct. 9, 1936, in Rowan County, Mr. Waddell
was a son of Mary Gertrude Fox Waddell of Salisbury and the late James Andrew Waddell.
Educated in the Spencer schools, Mr. Waddell was
the first to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlottes criminal
justice program in 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
Mr. Waddell was a police officer in Winston-Salem
for 13 years and later served as police chief for the town of Pilot Mountain. He was also
a former real estate agent and was a contract news carrier for the Salisbury Post before
retiring.
He was a member of Franklin Presbyterian Church,
where he was active in the Mens Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Harold
B. Jarrett American Legion Post 342, the Franklin Ellis Lions Club, the American
Philatelic Society and Woodmen of the World.
He helped organize the Rowan County Genealogy
Society at the Rowan Public Library.
Survivors include wife Barbara P. Waddell, whom he
married July 3, 1958; daughters Gwen W. Pfeifer, Cary, Karen W. Cole, New London, Laura W.
Elliott, Mebane, and Amy W. Bogle, Salisbury; brother Charles T. Waddell, Winston-Salem;
and eight grandchildren.
Services:11 a.m. Monday, Franklin Presbyterian
Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Larry Summey, minister. The body will be placed 30
minutes before the service. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Eva Mary St. Jean LeClair, 86, Meadows Retirement Center, who died Thursday (Nov. 11,
1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born March 6, 1913, in Slaterville, R.I., Mrs.
LeClair was a daughter of the late Oriel and Evalina Normundie St.Jean. Educated in the
Massachusetts schools, she formerly worked on the assembly line of a jewelry manufacturer.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Salisbury.
Her husband, William Henry LeClair, preceded her
in death.
Survivors include sons Donald L. LeClair,
Rockwell, and William H. LeClair Jr., North Springfield, Vt.; daughter Marie LeClair
Clanton, Salisbury; brother Clifford St. Jean, South Attleboro, Mass.; sister Viola
Charon, Newark, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services: Prayer service, 6 p.m. Saturday, Powles
Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Deacon Patrick Vallandingham, Sacred Heart Catholic
Church. Burial will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Church cemetery, Attleboro, Mass., at
a later date.
