Carl Harrison Barnes
GASTONIA Carl Harrison Barnes, 75, 1112
Perkins St., died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Barnes, the son of the late Oliver and
Florence Dellinger Barnes, served in the U.S. Army during World War II. An automobile
salesman, he retired from Anything on Wheels in Salisbury.
Survivors include son Larry Barnes, Salisbury, and
Bill Carpenter, Nicholsville, Ky.; daughter Mrs. David (Judy)Spiro, Blue River, Ore.;
brothers Bill and Miller Barnes, both of Gastonia; sisters Melva Holland and Geneva Queen,
both of Gastonia, and Elsie Carpenter, Lincolnton; and four grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, The Founders Chapel,
McLean Funeral Home, Gastonia. Burial, Hollywood Cemetery.

Linda Faye Shue Bickford
ALBEMARLE Linda Faye Shue Bickford, 53,
32027 Clete Road, died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1946, in Stanly County, Mrs.
Bickford was the daughter of the late Grady and Braudis Lambert Shue. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Gray Earl Bickford, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include brothers Grady Shue, Albemarle,
and Harold Wayne Shue, New London; and sisters Pat Simpson and Brenda Shue Turner, both of
Albemarle.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Bear Creek

MOCKSVILLE Mamie Smith, Pudding Ridge Road,
died Thursday (Nov. 11, 1999) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.

Hazel Wagner Welch
The funeral will be Friday for Hazel Wagner Welch,
81, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury after
a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 15, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Welch
was a daughter of the late A.A. and Clara Barber Wagner. She was educated in the Rowan
County schools. A homemaker and church organist, she was the first staff organist for
Lyerly Funeral Home. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the
United Methodist Women and a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include husband Albert Frederick Welch,
whom she married Dec. 21, 1941; son Frederick Michael Welch, Salisbury; daughters Pat
Welch Allen, Tarboro, and Terry Leigh Welch, Sylva; sister Mary Frances Lentz, Mount Ulla;
five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Main Street United
Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. William Ragsdale, pastor, and the Rev. Ronald
Daub, former pastor. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at Lyerly Funeral Home.
