Donald Eugene Anderson

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Thursday for Donald Eugene Anderson, 64, 620 N. Juniper St., who died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after several years of declining health.

Born June 6, 1935, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Anderson was a son of the late Sherman H. and Ora Wilkerson Anderson. He was employed for 45 years with Fieldcrest-Cannon, Plant 1, No. 7 spinning room and No. 7 twister room. He was a member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include wife Marie Severt Anderson; daughter Mrs. Jeff (Tammy A.) Weaver, Kannapolis; son Toby A. Anderson, Faith; brothers Melvin Anderson, Concord, and Gilbert Anderson, Kannapolis; sisters Katherine Stevens, Cecile Peavy and Alice Walters, all of Concord; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Keith Grogg. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on North Juniper Street.

Ruth Rose Cruz Blackwell

Ruth Rose Cruz Blackwell, 59, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at her home.

Born Dec. 3, 1939, in Key West, Fla., Mrs. Blackwell was a daughter of the late Herbert and Ruth Griner Cruz. She was employed with Rushco Food Store No. 4 for 15 years.

Survivors include husband John D. Blackwell, whom she married April 6, 1956; son John D. Blackwell Jr., Salisbury; daughters Barbara B. Stokes and Betty B. Rabon-Scott, both of Salisbury; brothers Hubert “Buddy”Cruz, Key West, Fla., and Kenneth and Tony Cruz, both of Alabama; sister Flora Chatten, Brandon, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.

Services: A private service will be held at a later date in Key West, Fla.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

Curtis Cleveland Christian

KANNAPOLIS — Curtis Cleveland Christian, 86, 912 Victoria Ave., died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a lengthy illness.

Born July 27, 1913, in Madison County, Ga., Mr. Christian was a son of the late Charlie Cleveland and Blanche Wehunt Christian. He operated Ball Park Barber Shop for 45 years before his retirement. A member of Shady Brook Baptist Church, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include wife Ethel Cromer Christian; daughter Gail Christian Duff, Williamsburg, Va.; brothers Roscoe Christian, Athens, Ga., and Collis and Hollis Christian, both of Kannapolis; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charlie Littlejohn. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Victoria Avenue.

 

Samuel Lee Davis

The funeral will be Thursday for Samuel Lee Davis, 68, Salisbury, who died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 21, 1931, in Guilford County, Mr. Davis was a son of the late Frank and Mamie Dickins Davis. He was educated in the Guilford County schools and served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. A self-employed painter and wall paper installer, he was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and VFWPost 3006.

Survivors include wife Sue Benfield Davis, whom he married June 3, 1978; son Ronnie Davis, China Grove; daughters Charlotte Kahn, Rockwell, Dana Brandt, Seattle, Wash., Teresa Butler, Albemarle, Connie Honeycutt, China Grove, and Elizabeth Byerly, Thomasville; brothers Raymond Davis, High Point, and Frankie Davis, Trinity; sisters Carlene Gordon and Jenny Link, both of Thomasville, Marion Wright, Archdale, and Marylin Hankins, High Point; and 11 grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Oakland Heights Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Edward Bitner. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Charlotte Khan, 107 Red Bird Lane, Rockwell.

 

Everette ‘E.J.’ Eaton

MOCKSVILLE — Everette Jordan “E.J.” Eaton, 74, 473 Cedar Creek Road, died Friday (Nov. 5, 1999) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, after three months of serious illness.

Born Aug. 31, 1925, in Davie County, Mr. Eaton was a son of the late Samuel B. and Bessie Smoot Eaton. A graduate of Davie County Training School, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had retired from Yadkin Valley Ecopnomic Development District I as a dispatcher and driver.

A member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church, he was chairman of the deacon board for many years. A former member of the Peace Corps, he was a Master Mason at Corinthian Lodge No. 17 PHA.

Survivors include son Everette Lohr Eaton, of the home.

Services: Service of thanksgiving, 1:30 p.m. Thursday,Cedar Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Linville. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Burial, 11 a.m. Friday, National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home. The body may be viewed noon-8 p.m. today at Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home.

 

Johnny Hill

EAST SPENCER — Johnny Hill, 54, 914 N. Long St., died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at his home after a brief illness.

Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Nan Beauchamp Keller

MOCKSVILLE — Nan Beauchamp Keller, 85, Lexington Road, died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie in Advance.

Born July 12, 1914, in Davie County, Mrs. Keller was a daughter of the late Jerry and Lula Potts Beauchamp. A homemaker, she attended Redland Pentecostal Church, Advance.

Her husband, William Vincent “Buck” Keller, died in 1994, and a son, Jerry Keller, died in 1999.

Survivors include sisters Ellie Howard, Mocksville, and Charlotte Williams, Advance; and one grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Eaton Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Joel Boyles. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Larry Webster Palmer

ALBEMARLE — Larry Webster Palmer, 57, 617 E. Main St., died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) at his home.

Born March 3, 1942, in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Palmer was the son of the late George Pearson and Margaret Seccombe Palmer. He was a graduate of the Albemarle schools and Lenoir Rhyne College.

He had retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years as a combat engineer. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he had also worked for Allison Manufacturing as a computer programmer.

Survivors include sons Larry Webster Palmer Jr. and Steven Dean Palmer, both of Albemarle; daughter Tracey Lynn Palmer, Albemarle; and three grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Thursday, Fairview Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Heidi Sommers. Military rites by Albemarle-Stanly County DAV.

Visitation: None. The family will be at the home on East Main Street.

Fred Cecil Wall

MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Thursday for Fred Cecil Wall, 81, Oak Grove Church Road, who died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.

Born Aug. 5, 1918, in Davie County, Mr. Wall was a son of the late Charles Lemuel and Lula Lanier Wall. Retired from Caudell Lumber Co., he was a lifelong member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

His wife, Pauline Whitaker Wall, died in 1998.

Survivors include son Freddie M. Wall, Statesville; daughter Mrs. Keigh (Peggy) Dillion, Salisbury; brothers Tom, Roy and Lee Wall, all of Mocksville; sisters Evelyn Boger and Frances McClamrock, both of Mocksville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Thursday, Oak Grove United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Jack Yarborough and the Rev. Charles Stewart.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Eaton Funeral Service.

Memorials: Oak Grove United Methodist Church, Steeple Fund, 1984 Highway 158 East, Mocksville, N.C. 27028.

 

Hazel Wagner Welch

Hazel Wagner Welch, 80, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Nov. 10, 1999) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.

Carroll G. Witherspoon

BRONX, N.Y. — Carroll Gordon Witherspoon, 60, 1094 E. 165th St., died Thursday (Nov. 4, 1999) at his home.

Born Feb. 18, 1939, in Salisbury, N.C., Mr. Witherspoon was the son of the late Selma Witherspoon. He attended Dewitt Clinton High School, Queens, and served in the U.S. Navy in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Survivors include son Kevin G. Witherspoon, Patterson, N.J.; daughters Sonya E. and Chaka Witherspoon, both of Patterson, N.J.; sister Roslyn P. Graves, Bronx; and two grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Florence C. Brown Funeral Home, Manhattan, N.Y. Burial, National Cemetery, Long Island.

Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
