Sharon Newton Hicks Taylor, 51, 2046 Barr Road, died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) at
NorthEast Medical Center after a year of declining health and two weeks of serious
illness.
Born Aug. 6, 1948, in Cabarrus
County, Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late D.W. and Odessa Fullem Newton. She had
retired due to ill health after 15 years with Newton Properties. She was a member of
Roberta Church of God, where she was a soloist.
Survivors include husband Lester
B.Taylor; daughters Crystal Hicks, of the home, and Melissa Blevins,China Grove; brother
Don Newton, Concord; sister Sandra Brown, Concord; and one granddaughter.

died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

BADIN Felix M. Drye, 82, 60
Cedar St., died Sunday (Nov. 7, 1999) at his home.
Born June 14, 1917, in Rowan
County, Mr. Drye was a son of the late Arthur David and Maude Ella Earnhardt Drye.
He had retired from Alcoa, where
he had been a member of the 25 Year Club. He was also a member of Badin United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include wife Crealmer
Arey Drye; son Felix Phil Drye Jr.,Sanford; daughters Mrs. Terry (Barbara)
Moore, Badin, and Mrs. Rick (Miriam)Huneycutt, Harrisburg; brother Arthur D. Drye,

Sandra Hudson Prather
The funeral will be today for
Sandra Hudson Prather, 33, Salisbury, formerly of Andrews, who died Friday (Nov. 5, 1999)
at her home.
Born Nov. 20, 1965, in
Slidell,Va., Ms. Prather was a daughter of Jerry and Sally Hudson of Andrews.
She was a 1983 graduate of Andrews
High School and attended Western Carolina University. A Catholic, she was a customer
service representative with Manpower Temporary Agency.

parents, include companion Chuck LaCourse, Salisbury; son Chad Anthony Prather, Salisbury;
brother Dan Hudson, Robbinsville; sisters Julie Norcross, Stecoh, and Linda Simpson,

NEW LONDON Virginia Tucker
Russell, 84, a resident of New London for 40 years, died Sunday (Nov. 7, 1999) at Wesley
Nursing Center, Charlotte.
Born Dec. 27, 1914, in
Gainesville, Ga., Mrs. Russell was a daughter of the late Harry Richardson and Frances
Aurelia Tucker. A graduate of Brenau College, she taught in the Georgia schools for seven
years.
A homemaker, she did volunteeer
work with both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a member of New London United Methodist
Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and president of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband of
more than 50 years, the Rev. Dr. Bernard C. Russell; daughters Rosa Linda Russell Talbert,
Shelby, and Adele Russell Fitzgerald, Kannapolis; sons EdwinLewis Russell, Shelby, Ala.,
and Dr. Samuel Stephen Russell, Huntsville, Ala.; sister Sue Blackstock, Thomaston, Ga.;
and four grandchildren.

London United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Pat Jenkins and the Rev. Gervase

Robert Lee Saunders
Robert Lee Saunders, 46, 5 Pine
Tree Road, died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999)at his home.
Born May 20, 1953, in Salisbury,
Mr. Saunders was the son of Spencer W. and Annie Maie Chandler Saunders of Salisbury. He
was a 1971 graduate of Boyden High School and a 1975 graduate of Wake Forest University,
where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Mr. Saunders graduated cum laude
in 1978 from Wake Forest School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review staff. He
has practiced law in Salisbury since 1978.
A member of St. Lukes
Episcopal Church, he was a Sunday school teacher, a lay Eucharist minister and a delegate
to the Episcopal diocesan convention.
Mr. Saunders was chairman of the
Republican Party and a member of the founding board of Hospice of Rowan County and the
board of directors of Waterworks Visual Art Center. A community adviser to Total Care
Health Services, he served on the board of Carolina Legal Services and was a founding
member and past chairman of the Rowan Lutheran Education Association of Salisbury Academy.
He was also a member of the Rowan County Planning Board, the Salisbury Parks and
Recreation board and the Greenway Committee.
He was a member of the N.C. Bar
Association, the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the
N.C. Academy of Trial Lawyers, the N.C. Savings and Loan League, the N.C. Association of
Long Term Care Facilities and the Fidelity Bank board (formerly First Citizens Bank and
Trust). He also served on the state bars Positive Action for Lawyers committee and
the steering committee for the Lawyers Assistance Program.
Survivors, in addition to his
parents, include wife Kimberly Weller Detty Saunders; sons Samuel Aaron and Stephen Holman
Saunders, both of the home; daughter Charlotte Chandler Saunders, of the home; and brother
Spencer William Saunders Jr., Richmond, Va.

be Wednesday for Charles Boyd Seaford, 87, 1327 Arlington Ave., who died Monday (Nov. 8,
1999) at Transitional Health Services after several years of declining health.
Born May 29, 1912, in Cabarrus
County, Mr. Seaford was a son of the late Edward Gibson and Mary Honeycutt Seaford. He had
retired in 1977 after 39 years of owning and operating Towel City Blind Co. He had earlier
worked at Cannon Mills, Plant 1, No. 7 slasher room.
A charter member of Calvary
Presbyterian Church, in earlier years he was a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church,
Concord, where he served as elder and deacon.

Gobble Jr., 38, Madison Avenue, died Sunday (Nov. 7, 1999) at Wake Forest University
Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, of injuries sustained in an industrial accident in
Stuart, Va.
Born Feb. 7, 1961, in Davidson
County, Mr. Gobble was a son of Gene Franklin and Reba Thomason Gobble of Lexington. He
was a foreman with Guy M. Turner of Greensboro.

Lewis Mills Keeton
ADVANCE Lewis Mills Keeton,
86, Dellwood Lane, died Sunday (Nov. 7, 1999) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem.
Born June 28, 1913, in Guilford
County, Mr. Keeton was a son of the late Emma Evans and Martin Luther Keeton.
He served in the U.S. Army during
World War II. A member of Davie Baptist Church, he had retired from JeffCo.
His wife, Mary Elsie Osborne
Keeton, died in 1992.

Statesville.
Born Jan. 16, 1905, in Iredell
County, she was a daughter of the late Lodema Souther and Joseph Edward Marlowe. She was a
retired textile worker and a member of Knox Chapel United Methodist Church.
