Margaret B. Allen

KANNAPOLIS — Margaret B. Allen, 85, 1102 Mable Ave., died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

The family is at the home of a son, Phillip S. Allen, 312 N. Ridge Ave.

 

Everette ‘E.J.’ Eaton

MOCKSVILLE — Everette J. “E.J.” Eaton, 74, 473 Cedar Creek Road, died Friday (Nov. 5, 1999) at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Morrison-Studevent Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Ralph Vestor Earnhardt

NORRIS, Tenn. — Ralph Vestor Earnhardt, 84, died Saturday (Oct. 30, 1999) at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.

Born on Feb. 17, 1915, Mr. Earnhardt was a son of the late Walter A. and Viola Cauble Earnhardt.

He retired after 26 years as an officer with Southern Railroad, Tuscumbia, Ala.

A member and past patron of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 69 in Knoxville, Tenn., Mr.Earnhardt was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner with the Knoxville Kerbela Temple. He was also a member of the Norris United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Forest Earnhardt; son Ralph ‘Jack’ Earnhardt; twin brother Ray L. Earnhardt, Salisbury; and sister Marie Miller, Baltimore.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at Norris United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Katherine Nance. Burial was in Norris Memorial Gardens.

Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton, Tenn. was in charge.

 

Evelyn Haws Bernard

ALBEMARLE — Evelyn Haws Bernard, 77, 33420 Old Salisbury Road, died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at Britthaven of the Piedmont.

Hartsell Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Leroy Crowell Burleyson

ALBEMARLE — Leroy Crowell Burleyson, 81, 29415 Nelson Mountain Road, died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at home.

Born Aug. 4, 1918 in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Bertie Crowell Burleson and Luther Columbus Burleson. His step-mother Nora Lee Lowder Burleson, who raised him from the age of six, is also deceased.

Self-employed as a homebuilder, Mr. Burleyson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and Victory Medal.

He was a lifelong member of Friendship United Methodist Church and a past Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Bell King Burleyson; son Rick Burleyson, Charlotte; sisters Lucille Hatley, Albemarle, and Margaret Sasser, Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Friendship United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Harrell. Burial, church cemetery with military rites conducted by the Albemarle-Stanly County Disabled American Veterans.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Ruth Hampton

KANNAPOLIS — Ruth Nantz Donaldson Hampton, 318 Forest Hills Drive, Wilmington, and formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday (Nov. 5, 1999) at her home.

Born in Mooresville, she was a daughter of the late Archibald Charles Nantz and Ada Susan Reece Nantz.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, G.C. “Don” Donaldson Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Pat Conrad, Wilmington, and Shirley Helms, Concord; sisters Dorothy Cline, Salisbury, Faye Lane, Burlington, and Mrs. R.V. Cashion, Kannapolis; brother A.C. Nantz Jr., Salisbury; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 7:30 tonight at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Donald S. Wagner. Graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

Lawson McConneaughey Jr.

Lawson A. McConneaughey Jr., 640 Barber-Lyerly Road, died Thursday (Nov. 4, 1999) at Davis Community Medical Center in Statesville.

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. George Hunter. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Mitchell & Fair Funeral Service. At other times, the family will be at the home.

 

Worlena T. McDuffie

Worlena Thomas McDuffie, 76, 115 Mae Road died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home of China Grove is in charge.

 

Darrell N. Smith

MOCKSVILLE — Darrell N. Smith, 69, Sheffield Road, died Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at Davis Medical Center in Statesville.

Born March 25, 1930 in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Ada L. Tomlin Smith and James N. Smith.

He retired in 1991 from the Hall of Justice in Winston-Salem.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church of Cooleemee and the Born Again Singers.

Survivors include his wife, Linda A. Smith; sons Jimmy Smith, Statesville, and Michael Smith, Taylorsville; daughter Kim Davis, Winston-Salem; step-son Jason Rock, Winston-Salem; step-daughter Ruth Shores, Winston-Salem; and seven grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Edgewood Baptist Church, Cooleemee, conducted by the Rev. Danny Shores and Pastor Robert Staton. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial, New Union United Church Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Davie Funeral Service Chapel.

 

Lois Mecimore

KANNAPOLIS — Lois Snow Mattox Mecimore, 509 Snow St., Kannapolis, died at 3 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 6, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center.

Born in Wilkes County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Martin Snow and Esther Florence Smith Snow.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Carl A. Mecimore; daughters Kay M. Knece, Kannapolis, and Jackie M. Mueller, China Grove; son Herbert “Butch” Mattox, Mount Pleasant; step-son Carl Curtis Kluttz of Georgia; sister Jean Haney, Kannapolis; brothers James Clayton Snow, Mooresville, and W.G. Snow, Kannapolis; six grandchildren, one step-grandchild; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brian Hammond. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. today at Lady’s Funeral Home. Family will be at the home of daughter Kay Knece, 2205 Glendale Ave., Kannapolis.
