Fairye Matthews Fuller
MOORESVILLE Fairye Matthews Fuller, 70,
River Highway, died Sunday (Oct. 31, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan 31, 1929, in Yadkin County, she was a
daughter of the late General Dewey and Stacie Waugh Matthews. She was self-employed as a
flag car driver.
Her husband, Charles E. Fuller, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons Doug, Randy and Tim Fuller,
all of Mooresville, and Marty Fuller, Landis; sisters Ann Kinsey, Kate Sparks and Landa
Brown, all of East Bend, and Rosa Wilhelm, Jonesville; and five grandchildren.

75, formerly of Kannapolis, died Wednesday (Nov. 3, 1999) at Concord Nursing Center. She
had been in declining health for many years.

Street, died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) at his home. He was a retired postal worker.

Rev. J.C. Lane
MOCKSVILLE The funeral will be Thursday for
J.C. Lane, 72, Sain Road, who died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at his home.
Born Sept. 12, 1927, in Rutherford County, Mr.
Lane was a son of the late Charles and Fushia Metcalf Lane. He was a graduate of Nashville
School of Automotive and Diesel Mechanics and had worked as a mechanic in Shelby. He was
also a graduate of Lees-McRae College and Appalachian State Teachers College. He did
graduate work at Emory University, Atlanta.
He retired as a minister after more than 40 years
with the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. He had been a
pitcher with the Chicago White Sox and a substitute teacher in the public schools. A
veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the military police during World War II.He was a
chaplain for Davie County Hospice.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years Margaret
Hansel Lane; daughters Mrs. Smitty (Cathy) Motsinger, Midway, Mrs.Robert (Patricia)
Anderson, Marion, Mrs. Dennis (Carol)Dobbs, Columbia, S.C., and Margaret Ann Lane,
Mocksville; sons Bob and Chris Lane, both of Killeen, Texas; sister Memir Waters, Forest
City; brothers W.L. Lane, Rutherfordton, and Elbert P. Lane, Henrietta; six grandchildren;
and two step-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, DulinUnited Methodist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Zane Norton, the Rev. Ray OFerrell and Dr. Mike
Leatherwood. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Born Sept. 13, 1929, in Grayson County, Va., Mrs.
Leath was a daughter of the late Bufford and Lula Crowder Akers. A homemaker, she was of
the Holiness faith.
Survivors include husband, AlvinL. Leath, whom she
married in 1947; daughter Brenda Sue Leath, of the home; sons Roger Lee and Billy Ray
Leath, both of Lexington; brothers Paul Akers, Fries, Va., and Jesse and Ralph Akers, both
of Lexington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lucy G. Oliphant
MOORESVILLE Lucy Galliher Oliphant, 92,
Oliphant Road, died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born July 19, 1907, in Iredell County, she was a
daughter of the late Robert and Frances Clodfelter Galliher. A homemaker, she was a
longtime member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was active for many
years.
Her husband, John D. Jack Oliphant,
and a daughter, Pauline Knox, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons Robert Bobby
Oliphant, Harold, Wayne and Gary Oliphant, all of Mooresville, and Jack L. Oliphant,
Troutman; daughters Lorene Shinn, Mooresville, and Virginia Follette, Clemmons; sister
Katie Karriker, Mooresville; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.

Born Feb. 28, 1935, in Marion, W.Va., Mr. Seymore
was a son of the late Herbert and Betty Seymore. Educated in the West Jefferson schools,
he attended Landis Church of God and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He retired as a
mechanic from Elox.
Survivors include wife Mary McGee Seymore; son
Ronnie Safrit, China Grove; daughters Linda Porter and Melissa Driver, both of China
Grove, and Patricia Zanolli, Mooresville; brothers Tom Seymore, West Jefferson, and John
Seymore, Tennessee; sisters Ruby Friesland and Betty Joe and Sue Seymore, all of West
Jefferson; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

John Henry Terry
John Henry Terry Sr., 84, formerly of High Point,
died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) at Hefner VA Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born Feb. 27, 1915, in McColl, S.C., he was a son
of the late Laurence T. and Martha Ann Welch Terry. Educated in the McColl, S.C. schools,
he was a graduate of High Point College. He was an industrial mechanic for Kay
Manufacturing Co. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during World War II in
the China, India-Burma and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatres. He was a member of Rankin
Memorial United Methodist Church, High Point.
His wife, Doris Mangum Terry, died on June 9,
1998.
Survivors include son John Henry Jr., Pensacola,
Fla.; daughter Mrs. Dale (Becky) Twembly, High Point; six grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
Services: There will be no services or visitation.
The body will be cremated

KANNAPOLIS Virla Mae Aldrich, 80,
Brightmoor Nursing Center, died Tuesday (Nov. 2, 1999) after five years of declining
health.
Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Union County, she was a
daughter of the late George W. and Anna Davis Aldrich. Employed as sales clerk in a
Florida department store, she retired in 1970.
Survivors include sons William and Arnold Cook,
both of Kannapolis; sisters Blanche Plyler, Monroe, and Methel Calhoun, Phoenix, Ariz.;
five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren
Services: The body will be cremated and private
services will be held.
