The funeral will be Wednesday for Wilma Estelle Goble, 78, 417 W. Ketchie St., who
died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at The Laurels of Salisbury.
Born May 16, 1921, in Rowan County, Mrs. Goble was
a daughter of the late Arthur Bedford and Clara Della Hafer Goble. She was educated in the
High Point schools. Retired from Cannon Mills folding department, she was a member
of St. Marks Lutheran Church.
Survivors include brother Arthur Goble,
Kannapolis; and sister Libbie Deal, China Grove.

Luther C. Slim Leonard
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Wednesday
for Luther Calvin Slim Leonard, 93, 517 Wright Ave., who died Sunday (Oct. 31,
1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Aug. 19, 1906, in Union County, Mr. Leonard
was a son of the late Henry Calvin and Linda Pauline Cox Leonard. He had retired in 1985
from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, sewing room. He was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist
Church.
Survivors include wife Nathilee Greene Leonard;
sons Eddie Carroll Leonard, Kannapolis, and Luther Marvin Leonard, Mobile, Ala.; sister
Bessie Wolfe, Monroe; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.

Kay Goodman Linker
ROCKWELL Barbara Kay Goodman
Linker, 43, Rockwell, died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at her home after a year of declining
health and a month of serious illness.
Born Nov. 12, 1955, in Rowan County, Mrs. Linker
was a daughter of Ben Melvin and Norma Jean Drye Goodman of Rockwell. She was a 1974
graduate of East Rowan High School and a 1993 graduate of Carolina Medical School of
Nursing.
A registered nurse, she was last employed with
Cabarrus Pediatric Clinic, Concord. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include
husband Arthur Lynn Tub Linker, whom she married June 16, 1974; son Jerome
Linker, of the home; daughters Amy and Jennifer Linker, both of the home; brother Mike
Goodman, Rockwell; sister Kathy Goodman Tolbert, Rockwell; and one granddaughter.

Gladys Macklin

A retired music teacher, Mrs. Macklin was a former
teacher at Salisbury High School.

Wallace Slade
Wallace Slade, 74, formerly of Washington, D.C.,
died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at the Hefner VAMedical Center in Salisbury after several years
of declining health.
Born Jan. 15, 1925, in Salisbury, Mr. Slade was a
son of the late Helen Slade Hawkins Scott. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had
retired as a truck driver for General Electric.
Survivors include brother Benjamin Hawkins, East
Spencer.

KANNAPOLIS Herman W. Sloop, 82, 408 N.
Cannon Blvd., died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born April 23, 1917, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Sloop
was a son of the late Waldo J. and Bessie Rogers Sloop. Owner/operator of Herman Sloop
Grading and Hauling for more than 50 years, he was a 1935 graduate of Cannon High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church,
where he was a former deacon and elder.
Survivors include wife Ethel Morgan Sloop;
daughters Mrs. Ralph (Sonia S.) Johnston, Mount Gilead, and Mrs. Arnold (NancyS.) Byrd,
Concord; brothers Jacob and J.D. Sloop, both of China Grove, Franklin Sloop, Rockwell, Guy

Born Feb. 10, 1910, in Union County, Mrs. Swanner
was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John W. Helms. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, the Joe Thomas Swanner, and a
daughter, Sue Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Vicki Eudy, New
London, and JoAnn Presson, Norwood; sons David Swanner, Indian Trail, and Keith Swanner,
Gainesville, Ga.; sister Daisy Trull; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
