Alexander "Alex" Smith


The funeral will be Tuesday for Alexander Brandon "Alex" Smith, 26, 2280 Seventh St. Extension, who died Saturday (Oct. 30, 1999) from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Born July 17, 1973, in San Diego, Calif., Mr. Smith was a son of Yolanda Orellana Garcia, Charlotte, and George Henry Smith of Salisbury. A graduate of North Rowan High School, he was employed as an electrician at the Freightliner Corp., Cleveland. He was a member of Spencer Moose Lodge 2019.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Heather Kluttz Smith, whom he married Feb. 14, 1994; daughters Kaitlyn Nicole and Ashlynn Bree Smith, both of the home; stepmother Marci H. Smith of Salisbury; brothers Eric Smith, Maine, and Patrick Smith and   George Smith Jr., both of Salisbury; and sisters Yolanda S. Knox, Salisbury, Lillian S. Spears,
Chicago, and Cynthia Johnson, New Mexico.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Summersett Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr.
Rick Cockerham, pastor, Calvary Baptist Church.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mary Masterson Antosek

The funeral will be Wednesday for Mary Eileen Masterson Antosek, 81, Salisbury, who died Saturday (Oct. 30, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 15, 1917, in Philadelphia, Mrs. Antosek was a daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Margaret Catherine Mansell Masterson. She was educated in the Philadelphia schools and at Immaculata College in Philadelphia.

She had retired as a secretary from the state Natural and Human Resources Division. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters.

Her husband, Louis John Antosek, died Oct. 24, 1986.

Survivors include sons Capt. L. Edward Antosek, Cairo, Egypt, Joseph F. Antosek, Webster Groves, Mo., William Mark Antosek, Edgewater, Md., and Dr. Richard B. Antosek, Coral Springs, Fla.; daughters Mrs. Craig (Mari) Reavis, Eden, Rosemany Antosek, Granite Quarry, Sally Antosek, Rockwell, and Michele Antosek, Salisbury; brother Edward Joseph Masterson Jr., Dresher, Pa.; sisters Margaret Catherine Antosek and Frances Theresa Branigan, both of Salisbury; and 13 grandchildren.

Services: Mass of Resurrection, noon Wednesday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas P. Clements. Burial, National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Marvin Avant

KANNAPOLIS —George Marvin Avant, 83, 1916 Glenwood St., died Saturday (Oct. 30, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health.

Born July 13, 1916, in Marion County, S.C., Mr. Avant was a son of the late Charles K. and Laura Venters Avant. He had retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, weave room, after 40 years with the company. He was a member of Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church.

Survivors include wife Jessie Koon Avant; sister Dorothy Sheets, Salisbury; and brothers Raymond Avant,Charlotte, and James Avant, Faith.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Kimball Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Kearney and the Rev. Hoke Ritchie. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Lady’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Glenwood Street.

Edna Griffith Smith

MOCKSVILLE — Edna Griffith Smith, Mocksville, died Sunday (Oct. 31, 1999) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a 10-year battle with lung cancer.

Born in Davie County, Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late John Frank and Dora Cook Griffith. She assisted her late husband, William Lawrence Smith, in running Smith Oil Co. for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church and past matron of Mocksville Chapter 173, Order of the Eastern Star.

She was also preceded in death by two infant daughters.

Survivors include daughter Natalie Smith Cash, Mocksville; sisters Ellen Gregory, Advance, and Mary Craver Tesh, Clemmons; and one grandson.

Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Yadkin Valley Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Bill Davis and the Rev. Lewis Phillips.

Visitation: None. The body will remain at Eaton Funeral Home until time for the service.

Wilma Estelle Goble

CHINA GROVE — Wilma Estelle Goble, 78, formerly of 417 Ketchie St., died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Lillian Kistler Heglar

LANDIS — The funeral will be Tuesday for Lillian Kistler Heglar, 87, West Ridge Avenue, who died Saturday (Oct. 30, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Oct. 22, 1912, in IredellCounty, Mrs. Heglar was a daughter of the late Thomas William and Ina Beaty Kistler. A 1930 graduate of Mooresville High School, she had retired in 1975 from Cannon Mills, Plant 4, cloth room. She had also worked for nine years as a receptionist for Dr. A.B. Sloan.

She was a lifelong member of Coddle Creek ARPChurch,Mooresville.

Survivors include sister Luna Kistler Sloop, China Grove.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Coddle Creek ARPChurch, Mooresville, conducted by the Rev. James A. Hunt and the Rev. Ralph Sparrow. Entombment, Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum, Concord.

Visitation: 9:30-10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Cavin Funeral Home, Mooresville.

Luther C. ‘Slim’ Leonard

KANNAPOLIS — Luther Calvin “Slim”Leonard, 93, 517 Wright Ave., died Sunday (Oct. 31, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Lady’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Willene H. Misenheimer

GOLD HILL —Willene Heintz Misenheimer, 73, 440 Walker Road, Mount Pleasant, formerly of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Oct. 31, 1999) at University Hospital, Charlotte.

Born Feb. 9, 1926, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Misenheimer was a daughter of the late Carl M. and Merle Lipe Heintz. A hairdresser, she was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

A son, Terry Morrell, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband Ray B. Misenheimer, daughter Rhonda M. Earnhardt, Badin Lake; brother C. Carey Heintz, Mount Pleasant; stepson Kenneth Misenheimer; stepdaughter Mrs. John (Juanita)Mullis, Concord; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Bethlehem United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Billy Ervin. Burial, Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity Church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Gordon Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant.
