Rowan County resident Tommy Kimball says he has been bow and arrow hunting for deer since 1968, but never bagged a deer as large as the buck he took recently in Stanly County. The buck was a 9-pointer and weighed 207 pounds.
"I set my tree stand along a scrape line," Kimball said. "This big buck came by checking the scrapes.
Other nearby deer blew and frightened the buck and it ran right under my stand and stopped for a second. My stand was about 20 feet off the ground and I had a good shot," he said. "I saw the arrow go in but the deer took off and kept going. It was around 5:15 p.m. and getting dark so I came back the next day and found the big buck about 65 yards from where it was shot."
"My wife has worn out three sets of photos showing everyone she knows the prints of the big buck."
