GRANITE QUARRY – A chase involving about a dozen police cars and four law enforcement agencies ended at approximately 6:15 Friday night when Ricky Hall rammed the red 1982 Toyota pick-up he was driving into an apartment house at the corner of Oak and Bank Street.

According to Granite Quarry Police Chief Clyde Adams, Hall had been living in the apartment with a woman until a judge imposed a restraining order on him a few weeks ago after ‘‘they got into it.’’

Adams said police did not know yet whether the woman was Hall’s wife because Hall ‘‘was uncooperative.’’

Adams said witnesses reported seeing a van drop Hall off at the apartment building earler.

Adams said Hall, believing the woman was not at home, broke into the apartment and stole her pickup.

‘‘We got a bulletin and one of the county cars saw it (the pickup) going up Highway 52,’’ Adams said. ‘‘He refused to stop. He didn’t go that fast, he just wouldn’t stop.’’ When police cars tried to pull alongside the pickup, Hall tried to run into them.

Hall crossed Jake Alexander Boulevard, went down Faith Road and then went up and down a number of streets at about 45 mph for about 15 minutes. Then he drove back up Old Highway 80, with 10 or 12 cars behind him trying to get him stopped, Adams said. He turned West on Peeler Street and the next road is Oak, where he lived.

When Hall got to the apartment where he lived, he turned into driveway. Seeing the woman and a man sitting on the porch, Hall tried to run into them, crashing the pickup.

By this time, sheriff’s department, Granite Quarry police, Salisbury police and the N.C. Highway Patrol had all joined the chase.

Granite Quarry Police Officer Garrett Barger said Hall was ‘‘screaming and hollering and calling names. He was intoxicated and very belligerent. He was handcuffed and shackled for the safety of the officers. He was kind of wild.’’

Adams said Hall refused treatment at the scene but later asked to be taken to the hospital. He is now at the Rowan Detention Center.

Although reports are not complete yet, Adams said Hall faces charges from both Granite Quarry Police and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department. Hall does not have a driver’s license, Adams said.
