FROM STAFF REPORTS
SALISBURY POST

East Rowan linebacker Adam Horton, a four-year starter at East, has been named to the North Carolina Shrine Bowl football team.

Horton led the Mustangs to three state 3A playoff appearances.

Horton is joined on the squad by two longtime foes who will now be friends Ð A.L. Brown Wonders, Nick Maddox and Nick Gill.

Maddox, a running back, recently broke the state's all-time mark for touchdowns. He has scored 109 in his career and has rushed for over 2,000 yards each of the past two seasons.

Gill was selected to the team as a defensive back, although he has anchored the Wonders' defensive unit this year as a linebacker. The Wonders, who will play East Rutherford Friday, have posted six shutouts.

Horton's coach is Jeff Safrit, while the Wonders are coached by Bruce Hardin.

The game will be played at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte on Dec. 19.
