SPENCER A former roommate is the suspect in the murder of a Spencer man found shot
to death Saturday morning.After
three days of investigation, the Spencer Police Department and the State Bureau of
Investigation have issued a warrant this morning charging 20-year-old Andrae Brown with
murder of Michael Tyrone Long and are asking for the publics assistance in locating
Brown.
Though investigators could not
reveal circumstances that led to Brown as a suspect in the case, Spencer Police Detective
C.D. Schenk said: We received information implicating him in the murder.
Schenk also confirmed that Brown
was a former roommate of Long, a former track star at North Rowan High School. Brown had
moved out of the house they shared at 804 Second St. about two months earlier.
Long, a former state shot put
champion who was well-liked by both students and faculty, was murdered at the Second
Street house Friday night, Schenk said this morning. One of his current roommates,
Demetrius Jefferies, found Longs body Saturday morning and called 911.
Long, Jefferies and a third man,
Jarius Foster, were living in one of four new houses built by Gene Lloyd of Raleigh last
year on Second Street. Lloyd said he had no problem renting to the men he admired
for attempting to make better lives for themselves, but admitted he had reservations
about Brown.
I didnt know the guys
all that well. I could tell they had to work and make their own living, but I felt proud
they made the effort, admired them for that. They all had good jobs, Lloyd said by
phone Tuesday afternoon.
Brown is no stranger to crime. He
was arrested in 1995 for armed robbery in Kannapolis and possession of a stolen firearm,
Schenk said.
Brown is described as a black male
with a medium brown complexion, brown eyes, and shoulder length dread locks. He is
5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs approximately 155 pounds. His last known address was 3520
Dogwood Court in Salisbury. The suspect was last seen driving a four-door Smoke Gray Jeep
Cherokee or Wagoneer, N.C. license number LSY-4002. Police say he is armed and very
dangerous.
Anyone who sees Brown should call
911 immediately and but should not try to approach him.
If anyone has information that
might help investigators, they should call Spencer Investigators C.D. Schenk or R.A.
Boswell, or the State Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-334-3000. |
